Movement Types in SAP

The movement types are defined as 3-character field in system. It is used to describe the type of material
movement that need to be performed. The movement type is used for all type of goods movement in SAP
(receipts, issues, transfers, reversal).

The predefined movement types in SAP is between 100 and 899. The movement type 900 and upwards can be
used for customized movement types.

Transaction OMJJ is used to created movement type in SAP or SPRO. • Material Management • Inventory

Movement Type Text describes the goods movement that is effected with the movement type.

The 2-character codes have the following meaning:

• GI: goods issue (consumption/usage, withdrawal) or goods receipt without reference

• GR: goods receipt with reference to a purchase order or production order

• GD: goods movement with reference to a delivery (from the Shipping component)

• RE: return delivery, return, reversal

• RE: returns reversal

• TP: transfer to company’s own stock

• TF: transfer posting

• TR: reversal of transfer posting


• SLS: sales value receipt

Movement type specifies a key for the type of goods movement. For example, mvt. type 301 is used to
transfer goods or material from one plant to other plant, mvt. type 322 is used to transfer goods or material from
unrestricted-use stock to QI in the same plant, mvt. type 323 is used if you need to transfer goods or material to
other storage location in the same plant.
 

Movement Types in SAP

101 - Goods receipt (GR) for purchase order

102 - GR for purchase order – reversal

122 - Return delivery to vendor

123 - Reversal of return delivery to vendor

161 - Returns for purchase order

261 - Consumption for order

262 - Consumption for order – reversal

301 - Transfer posting plant to plant (one-step)

302 - Transfer posting plant to plant (one-step) – reversal

303 - Transfer posting plant to plant – remove from storage

304 - Transfer posting plant to plant – remove from storage – reversal

305 - Transfer posting plant to plant – place in storage

306 - Transfer posting plant to plant – place in storage – reversal

309 - Transfer posting material to material

311 - Transfer posting storage location (one-step)

312 - Transfer posting storage location (one-step) – reversal


313 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location – remove from storage
Transfer posting storage location to storage location, customer stock, sales order stock, project stock – remove from
storage

314 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location – remove from storage – reversal
Transfer posting storage location to storage location, customer stock, sales order stock, project stock – remove from
storage

315 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location – place in storage

316 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location – place in storage – reversal

321 - Transfer posting quality inspection (QI) to unrestricted-use stock (QI to UR)

322 - Transfer posting QI to unrestricted-use stock – reversal (UR to QI)

323 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location - stock in quality inspection (QI to QI; Difference storage
location)

325 - Transfer posting storage location to storage location - stock in blocked (blocked to blocked; Difference storage
location)

341 - Transfer posting unrestricted-use stock to restricted-use stock

342 - Transfer posting unrestricted-use stock to restricted-use stock - reversal

343 - Transfer posting blocked stock to unrestricted-use stock

344 - Transfer posting blocked stock to unrestricted-use stock – reversal

349 - Transfer posting blocked stock to QI stock

350 - Transfer posting blocked stock to QI stock – reversal (QI to Blocked)

351 - Goods issue for a stock transport order

501 - Goods receipt without a purchase order or a delivery free of charge in the unrestricted-use stock. When a receipt is
not for a purchase order.

541 - Transfer posting unrestricted-use stock - stock of material provided to vendor


551 - Withdrawal for scrapping from unrestricted-use stock

552 - Withdrawal for scrapping from unrestricted-use stock – reversal

553 - Withdrawal for scrapping from QI stock

554 - Withdrawal for scrapping from QI stock – reversal

555 - Withdrawal for scrapping from blocked stock

556 - Withdrawal for scrapping from blocked stock – reversal

561 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances into unrestricted-use stock (When stock balances are entered for the first
time)

562 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances into unrestricted-use stock – reversal

563 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances into QI stock

564 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances to QI – reversal

565 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances into blocked stock

566 - Receipt per initial entry of stock balances to blocked stock – reversal

701 - GR physical inventory – unrestricted-use stock

702 - Goods issue (GI) physical inventory – unrestricted-use stock

703 - GR physical inventory – QI stock

704 - GI physical inventory – QI stock

707 - GR physical inventory – blocked stock

708 - GI physical inventory – blocked stock

711 - For differences where the quantity does not exist in the storage bin but is recorded in the books, In this case the
difference must be cleared from the warehouse and posted to the interim storage type for differences.

712 - For differences where the quantity does exist in the storage bin but is not recorded in the books, In this case the
difference must be cleared from the interim storage type for differences and posted to the warehouse.
Use of movement type 711 and 712, they are used for handling differences. For example, do goods receipt at
goods receipt area 50 pieces (Create TO with 50 pieces). However there are some pieces broken while
transferring to storage location in warehouse 10 pieces then the goods to be confirmed is 40 pieces. Difference
for this case is 10 pieces. (more detail in Handling Differences and Clearing Differences)

Note:

Goods issue: A reduction in warehouse stock due to a withdrawal of stock or the delivery of goods to a
customer.

Delivery: The process for receiving, sending, or transferring goods. The delivery can be inbound or outbound
delivery.

Return delivery: A delivery returning goods that are currently part an enterprise’s stock to an external supplier.
A return delivery is linked to a purchase order or goods receipt.
