Experiment No. 3 SIGNALS IN MATLAB

MATLAB CODES:

DISCRETE-TIME SIGNALS

Discrete-Time Unit Step-Sequence

Discrete-Time Exponential-Sequence
What type of signal is x2?
- It is an exponential sequence discrete-time
signal.
What does the function accomplish?
- It finds the position of the zero value in the n-matrix.
What operator is represented by the two successive equality signs?
- It represents the ‘eq’ operator, this operator determines whether the condition is
equally set or not.

How does x3 differ from x2?

- The differ from the output being produced. As
seen in x2, it is exponential but it does not
contain negative values. However, in x3 there
has been observed a change from negative
infinity down to zero.

As seen from the graph there has been a unit step

that had occurred and then an exponential
decrease after that unit step.
Is x6 periodic? How many samples does one
period of x6 have?
- Yes, it has 2 ½ cycles.

How does this signal compare with x6? Are they

the same? Why or why not?
- They are the same since the frequency is
just plus 1 meaning the angle is the same
because of the 360-degree rotation.
Should theta be in degrees or radians? How does the signal x8 compare with x6?
- Theta should be in radians because of the 2*pi*f which is represented as the omega.
The x8 signal is the same of as the x6 signal in terms of the number of their cycles.
However, the two signals differ in their phase angles.

The resulting signal shows a

combination of a unit step,
exponential, and sinusoidal signal.

APPROXIMATION OF CONTINUOUS-TIME SIGNALS

Compare the sound for the last two

frequencies. Did you get what you
expected? Why or why not?
- For the last 2 sounds, the pitch becomes higher and higher, this means that as frequency
increases, the pitch also increases.

How does the sound of y2(t) differ from that

of y1(t)?
- Y2 has a higher pitch compared to Y1.
