RB3- Mobile Rockbreaker

Ore Flow Suite

2016
BACKGROUND Secondary Breaking - The challenge underground

Ore flow blockages like Drawpoint hang-ups or Oversize

seriously impact productivity and increase mining costs.

The Solution → MacLean Ore Flow suite NEW

Water Medium Blockholer

Cannon Reach Drills Drills Rockbreaker

Marketing Plan - RB3

What are Hang-ups ?
Large rocks reporting in draw points due to caving of competent bodies with
coarse fragmentation and insufficient comminution that block ore flow

Primary Fragmentation – Particle size that separates from

cave back and enters the draw column.

• Rockmass strength ( RMR)

• Geological structures
• Joint/fracture spacing & geometry
• Stress or subsidence caving
• Induced Stress

Secondary Fragmentation – Fragmentation of particle as

it moves down the draw column or COMMINUTION

• Rock –block shape and strength

• Draw Height and draw rate
• Rock block Range in fragmentation size –fines
cushioning
Need for Ore flow facilitation
Hang-ups need to be cleared quickly as not only it stalls the production, stresses
created by the blockage transmit to important mine structures, such as draw
point brows and extraction-level tunnels. Damage can go as far as causing
footwall heave and failure of tunnel sidewalls.

Hang-ups could be High or Low hang-ups

High hang-ups - above 8 m

MacLean Ore flow Suite

Water Cannons – WC

Medium Reach - SB9, 12

Secondary Breaker – SB6

What is Oversize ?
What is Oversize ?

Oversize for LHD

+ 2 m3 for 6 yd. Scoops

+ 3 m3 for 8 yd. Scoops

When is Oversize a serious problem?
+ 2 m3 > 15 %

+ 3 m3 > 15 %
Oversize - factors

Geological Features of rock mass

Rock quality
Improper Drilling & Blasting
Mining Method
Re-compaction of ore
Handling Oversize

Load , Haul , Dump and break at the Grizzly

Handling Oversize

Drill and Blast at

Source
Handling Oversize - the flip side

Increased operation and maintenance costs

on production units like LHDs’, Trucks.

- Cylinders
- Buckets
- Tires and Drive lines
- Breakdown cause reduced % availability
- Lower production rate

Overall increase in Load, Haul and Crushing costs.

Handling Oversize - the flip side

Explosive loading and blasting done at the end of shifts

Safety and damage to mine structures is a concern

Lost production time
A Safe, efficient and
mobile breaking unit
to reduce oversize

RB3 - Product Promise
Deliverables
• Oversize fragmented at source at the draw point or blasting chamber.

→ Reduced ore handling cost & time

→ Increased Stope area productivity

• Eliminates non-productive boulder re-handling by LHDs

→ Improves LHD availability for core jobs
• LHD Repair costs substantially reduced due to lower load factors

→ Reduced mucking & hauling costs

• Rockbreaking without need for explosives , No negative effects on
mine infrastructure and ventilation

→ Safer and faster removal of ore blockages
