interpret their meanings. (9 marks)

b) Comment on the distribution of daily spending by male university students. Justify your
answer with two reasons. (6 marks)

c) Compare the daily spending between male and female university students in terms of
average and dispersion. (12 marks)

students and interpret the answer. (4 marks)

e) Find the percentile rank for female university student who spends $41 daily and interpret
the answer. (4 marks)

Question 2

A researcher is interested to analyze the time spent on studying per week among university
students. He has surveyed 50 students in a university and recorded down their information in
the data set given. The time spent on studying per week (hours) is labelled under Study column.
Based on the data set, answer the following questions

a) Calculate the probability that a randomly selected student spends less than 6.5 hours on
studying per week. (5 marks)

b) Calculate the probability that the mean studying time per week for five randomly selected
students is more than 7 hours. (5 marks)

c) Calculate the probability that if four students are randomly selected, two of them study less
than 6.5 hours per week. (4 marks)

d) It is found that 5% of the male students spend less than A hours studying per week. Find
the value of A. (6 marks)

e) State the assumption(s) made in order to carry out the calculations in (a) to (d). (2 marks)

students is more than 7 hours per week at 1% level of significance. (13 marks)

Question 3

Professor Jane wants to study whether exercise helps in improving student academic
performance among Malaysian students. She has randomly selected a group of university
students for the study. The time spent on exercise per week (hours) and students’ exam scores
(marks) in a recent test were recorded in the data set given.

Based on the data set, the variables are defined using the variable names as below:
Score = Exam score (marks)
Exercise = Time spent on exercise per week (hour)

a) Using MS Excel, write the least square regression equation. (4 marks)

b) Validate the value of a and b in part (a) and interpret their meanings. (10 marks)

c) Identify coefficient of correlation and interpret its meaning. (4 marks)

d) Identify coefficient of determination and interpret its meaning (4 marks)

e) At 10% level of significance, test if there is any significant linear relationship between time
spent on exercise per week and exam score. (8 marks)
