Proposal For Lithium-Ion Testing Facility: Slide-1
Proposal For Lithium-Ion Testing Facility: Slide-1
Slide-1
Batteries are a part of our daily lives, more or less to say, everything around us
runs on battery now, hence we need a proper body or organization to test and
approve the safety, functioning of the use of these batteries, before it hits
mass distribution. Hence a Battery testing facility is set up all over India to
perform this job, but in the eastern region of this country, that is, west Bengal,
has no testing facility to approve batteries such as Li-ion cells, for use by the
masses. Henceforth, in this presentation we are presenting a proposal for
setting up a battery testing facility, specifically for Li-ion batteries in west
Bengal, and the services that we will be offering and finally the investment that
we are hoping to get.
Slide-2
We will start off by explaining why exactly do we need a battery testing
facility in West Bengal and why this idea had not been led before-
The first and foremost reason for opening a battery testing facility at
one of India’s second largest city, i.e. , West Bengal has the presence
of highest number of Electric vehicles, and its numbers are
comparable to the other cities of world such as-Shenzhen (China),
Santiago (Chile), Izmir (Turkey), London (UK) and Vancouver.
But, According to a survey of the eastern region we realized, for
getting a battery tested and approved according to the industrial
standards and proper certification, there is no established testing
facility in West Bengal and for testing the battery companies had to
travel to other regions of India, which incurs heavy back and forth
transportation charges, hence soon companies started to setup their
production unit in regions other than west bengal
Hence, the proposal for setting up our own testing facility in West
Bengal can cut a significant amount of cash on transportation to
other states.
According to recent reports, Companies like AMCO batteries Ltd,
KHUSHI AUTOMOBILES and Exide among the few, are in the works
for setting up a battery production unit in Kolkata, but they don’t
have a proper testing facility, so they could be our biggest customer
for getting their battery tested and verified with proper certification.
Slide-5
We start off with the testing facility in the Western region of india, that is,
EQDC (or Electronics & Quality Development Centre) present in Gujrat. This
testing facility was established, by Govt. of Gujarat & is approved to perform
under the STQC (Standardization Testing and Quality Certification) Programme,
Dept. of Electronics and Information Technology. It is also an NABL authorized
facility, and hence is able to provide all the necessary testing standards for the
Li-ion batteries being tested.

Here is a visual overview of the testing kits present at the EQDC testing facility.
Slide-9
Following testing services and standard certification provided by EQDC are-
**(only if sir asks) This test determines how effective the electrolyte is in
resisting the flow of electrical current.
Temperature Cycling Test (The thermal shock and temperature cycling tests
are the important test to determine the quality of battery, mentioned under the
IEC, UL, and SAE standards: IEC 62133 - Temp cycling: 75 to 20 to -20°C)
Incorrect installation Test ()
Crushing Test (The battery crush tests detect the maximum extrusion
pressure of the battery, Battery deformation, Battery voltage drop and battery
surface temperature conditions)
External short circuit Test (External short circuit tests simulate and picks out
incorrect battery usage. These tests consist of short circuiting a battery from
outside to see if the battery will cause a fire or rupture or not)
Mechanical Shock Test
Thermal abuse Test
Over-charging Test
Forced discharge Test (This test starts will a fully discharged cell, and
through the use of an external power supply, forces it into over-discharge
potentially driving the cell into reversal. objective is to determine the number
of times a battery can be used by evaluating it until it encounters a forced
discharge simulating a real life situation after repeated cycles of charging and
discharging.)

The overall comparison of the services provided by all three regions are
mentioned in the table.
Slide-24
And in the next table we have mentioned the SERVICES TO BE OFFERED BY
THE PROPOSED TESTING LAB FOR WEST BENGAL.

The following graph shows the projected potential demand of the Li-ion
batteries in all forms extending up to the year 2030 vs the amount of GWh
that will be consumed by those batteries.
