TITLE
NORMAL, Ill.- Calling all children ages 7-14 for the Pushcart Derby event hosted by the
Children’s Discovery Museum and Illinois State University’s S.T.E.M program.

Oct. 3, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. children can participate in a day of
teamwork and fun. The event will take place at 100 N. Rivian Motorway, Normal, IL.

The day consists of a workshop led by ISU and Museum educators preparing
carts for the race. Teams of 5 will be assigned at the event. They will then put their
designs to the test and race to the finish in the road course derby. Prizes will be awarded
for teamwork and speed.

Shelly Hanover, Director of Museum Experiences and Engagement says, “We


aim to provide a powerful play experience, and a passionate staff, to assist in the
development of the whole child surrounded by healthy relationships, healthy families and
a healthy community.”

Registration deadline is Friday, September 25. The registration price is $25 dollars
and includes a full day of activity. A free t-shirt, snacks, and lunch will also be provided
during the event.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will support the Museum’s mission. It
enables the expansion of programs, creation of exhibits, continuation of outreach
initiatives and scholarship provision for disadvantaged youth.

The organization was first founded in 1988 as the McLean County Children’s Discovery
Museum. Children’s Discovery Museum has operated under various names at different
locations in the Bloomington-Normal area. They have always remained true to their
mission of providing youth and their families with hands-on play experiences that
promote learning and growth. They aim to inspire children and ignite experimentation
and innovation.
