395/96 Fall 2021 Final Portfolio and Self-Critique

You will put together a digital portfolio of all the work you have completed throughout the semester. Along
with a last “Art History Research Assignment” and “Self-Critique/Learning Application Paper” to turn in for
final review. The portfolio will need to be created digitally using either Evernote or Weebly. I will be
demonstrating how to use these applications, so you feel comfortable doing them in class. There needs to
be a header or title for each section. This will allow me to easily go through the portfolio and find each
section. The title of each header should be taken from the list below. A point will be taken off of every
section that does not have a header. Please try to go in the order shown as well. The last section of this
portfolio will have a small rubric associated with it so you can understand what is required. The parts of the
portfolio should be placed in the order shown in the check-off list below.

**You will need upload the link for the Weebly site on a word document in D2L or Share it to me in
Evernote by the last day or class.

Self-Critique and Learning Application Assignment
You will need to look back and critique/reflect on your learning this semester. In art we are always looking
back at our work, to see how we have improved and what we could still do better. I want you to do the
same in this assignment. Take a look at your work and start to think about the kind of classroom and class
structure you want to have someday. What are the skills from this classroom that you think will help you
get there? This should be done as a paper and typed and inserted as the section of your portfolio. The
following questions need to be answered.

1.) How have you grown as a teacher from the information you’ve learned this semester? (5 points) Give
me your general impressions here about the kind of teacher you were when you walked into the
classroom and the kind of teacher you are as you leave this class. Like a thesis statement.
I have grown so much as a teacher from this class I have learned more about the development of the
kids that I will be working with. I have learned that kids are sometimes even behind when it comes
to that as well. I feel more well rounded and open to adding different art ideas into the classroom. I
always loved art but I didn’t know if I could bring it into my classroom, but now I know different
ways to bring art into the classroom as well.

2.) What skills from this class do you plan to use in your teaching/pedagogy? (10 points) Cite at least 3
different skills that you plan to use in the classroom and how you might use it to be a better teacher.
I would love to use the TAB method in the classroom with other topics like math or even science I
believe that it would be so helpful and would give the students more choices when it came to other
topics and subjects. I would also love to use the ideas of the artistic stages of Development when it
comes to the kids. This way I could know where they are and what stage they are at. This could help
if they are behind or even if they are ahead of everyone as well. I also think that it is just an
interesting topic to learn about as well. I think that even using the elements and principles of art
could be very helpful in the world of the classroom. I think that students use these everyday even
when they don’t realize it. The students use these principles, and it would be helpful for them to
know a little bit more about it.

3.) What did you find most useful to your upcoming teaching practice? (5 points) Evaluate what the
most beneficial part of the class was for you and why you feel that way. Be sure to justify and defend
your reasoning with how it will help your teaching practice.
I loved the whole class and how there were different ideas of learning when it came to the delivery
of the information given. I enjoyed doing the art being that it was an art class and we even got to
learn about different teaching methods like the TAB method. I loved that method and I believe that
it could be used in other ways as well like I had said before I think that this could be used in other
subjects like math science or reading. Really all the subjects could use the TAB method in some way,
this way the students could get all the methods and they could see different ways that would work
for them. I think that not all the methods of delivery especially for math don’t work for the students.
That is why the TAB methods could work for this kind of thing.
4.) What sparked your interest and is something that you plan to look into further? (5 points) Here’s
where you have to think about something that you might not know everything about yet, but would
like to continue looking into. Tell me what that might be and explain your reasoning for why you want
to explore it further. How do you think it will help you grow as a teacher someday?
I had mentioned it before, I would love to use the artistic stages of development in my classroom. I
would also love to learn a lot more about it as well. I think that it is so interesting to learn about the
different stages of development for anyone kids or adults. It is something that has always interested
me. I would love to learn more about the details and the stories behind it and how it really affects
the kids. I would also love to compare my ideas and how I grew up in comparison to where I was
growing up. I would love to explore it further to show my growth in the classroom and see where
students started when they began and where they ended by the end of the year. It will help me grow
because I will be able to see how my students are or where they are and if they need extra help or if
they are far ahead. I want to nurture the idea of art and bring in the idea of different forms of art so
that the students don’t lose their interest like most of them do. I think that art is so much fun and so
important for the kids to grow up in.
