Temperature
constraint
The screening tool for pulp line represents the temperature
profile along the pulp line (Fig. 7) the graph includes all the water/

injection (DHT), while pulp temperature drops are the result of

limit, and across the restricted section (e.g. the bleaching section

temperature constraints).

The screening process is performed by assuming a minimum

temperature variation criterion and a minimum enthalpy variation
criterion; when evaluating the mixing points across the pulp
line—particularly the water/white water dilution points, any
variation above the threshold will be selected as a relevant DHT
feature. These criteria are plant specific. For instance, it may be
considered that any temperature variation lower than 5 1C is
negligible and that any heat load lower than 100 kW transfer
through mixing is ignored. These criteria are used to evaluate the
existing mixing operating conditions to define only the relevant
dilution/DHT points that need to be included in the energy
analysis. This screening diagram can be used to also identify the
NIM-based paths.
