You have learned what ESP materials are, principles for its development, framework for its
development as well as examples of commercial ESP course book. You also have discussed
initial plan of ESP materials development project, which I have commented on.
Now, please write a progress report of your group’s initial plan for developing ESP materials
by explaining:

1- What your ESP Materials Development Project is about (before and after my feedbacks)

2- What’s the goal and objectives of the ESP program you develop (before and after my
feedbacks) (score: 30)
3- What’s your plan for developing the materials for your ESP Program –think of the major
principles and framework for materials development that you can apply--(before and after
my feedbacks) (score: 40)

Answer

1. Previously: We made a culinary decision for the first time. We’ve already found the curriculum and
are deciding what we’ll do next. In addition, we received criticism from our speaker.
Following feedback, we shifted our focus from gastronomy to hairstyling. We believe that
hairstyling is more straightforward than culinary subjects. We also pay attention to the personnel.
As a result, we believe that salon workers comprehend less English than persons who are good
cooks or own a restaurant.
2. Before: The purpose is to assist vocational high school students, particularly hairstylists, in
improving their English language skills in order to aid their future careers.
3. After that: The goal and objectives are to assist vocational high school students, as well as many
salon workers, in understanding and improving their English. As a result, it will be extremely
advantageous to them, whether at school or amateria

 My goal is to assist them in better understanding the English language. They should not
only understand, but also endeavor to incorporate English into their daily lives. Because
English is a universal and international language, learning English will not harm you.
 My idea to create materials for them had to be preceded by a need analysis, similar to
what my group and I did. We may discover essential elements such as main emphasis
skills, learning media, learning materials, methods that can be used, and much more by
doing a need analysis. Certainly, the results of the requirement analysis can be used as a
guide when creating ESP materials.
 Our need analysis serves as a baseline for us. More than that, we must consider the needs
of every student or salon employee who has a genuine need to learn English. Designing
materials must also be current and enjoyable in order for the teaching and learning
process to be effective and efficient.
