Nursing Capstone: Practicum Reflection

The practicum experience for the Nursing Capstone course focused on nursing

leadership. During my practicum experience, I followed MSN prepared nurse educator Dani

Legates at Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing in Lewes, Delaware. Interestingly enough,

this is the nursing school that I graduated from in 2018. Throughout this practicum experience I

worked with Dani and the nursing students during their obstetrics clinical rotations as well as

their simulation lab experiences.

As my future goals for nursing include nursing leadership and education, I felt that this

practicum opportunity allowed me to gain insightful knowledge about the role of a clinical

instructor and nurse educator. When discovering how this practicum experience affected my

professional practice, not only did I gain leadership skills, but I also further discovered how

important nursing educators are. I find nursing education vital to the continuation of the field of

nursing. This practicum experience confirmed my desire to drive my career towards this path.

As promoted in the course PGC’s, competencies that I developed during this practicum

experience include advanced nursing knowledge and professional growth, improved leadership

skills, interprofessional communication and collaboration, health promotion, and lifelong

learning.
