ABAC Spring Choral Concert on April 16

TIFTON—The spotlight will be on the top vocal talent among the students at Abraham

Baldwin Agricultural College on April 16 when the School of Arts and Sciences presents its

annual spring choral concert at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the ABAC campus.

Open to the public at no charge, the concert showcases the Concert Choir, the Chamber

Singers, and the ABAC Singers. Dr. Susan Kirby Roe, a professor of voice and head of the
ABAC Fine Arts Department, will conduct the concert. Dr. Jennifer Huang will accompany the

students on the piano.

The audience will rise to its feet when the Concert Choir kicks off the evening with “The

Star-Spangled Banner” followed by “Psalm 23” from “Songs of Faith.” That number will

feature Timothy Fancher on the French horn.

The choir will then sing “The Moon is Distant from the Sea,” “I Am Not Yours,” and

“Where Dwells the Soul of My Love,” which will be highlighted by Cierra Pineda on the flute.

The ABAC Chamber Singers will then take the stage for “Arise Beloved” followed by

the ABAC Singers with “Set Me as a Seal” and “Somewhere” from “West Side Story.” Mezzo-

soprano Stephanie Davis and tenor Landon Chavis will be featured in “Somewhere.”

Soprano Sydney Thomas will then be featured in “America, The Dream” when the

ABAC Concert Choir returns to the stage. Alumni will join the choir for the ABAC Alma Mater

to close out the evening.

The ABAC Singers have performed at Walt Disney World on the International Stage at

EPCOT, two cathedrals in New York City, the World Trade Center Site, and at jazz festivals

throughout the southeast each spring. They also perform for all special events at the college

including commencement.

The Chamber Singers have performed Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem” with Dr. Paul Neal and

his choirs at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. The group also performs and

tours throughout the southeast, recruiting students for ABAC.

In the spring of 2017, the group sang at Walt Disney World at the newly renovated

Disney Springs at the Waterview Park Stage and performed with the Albany Symphony

Orchestra and other college choirs as part of the ABAC performing arts series.

The ABAC Concert Choir

And Alumni

The Concert Choir consists of students from Georgia, as well as other areas of the United States. The students attend
class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for fifty minutes per session. From the Concert Choir, an auditioned group, the
Chamber Singers, is drawn. These students are responsible for learning their music outside of their weekly rehearsals. The Jazz
Choir is an additional auditioned group that meets for one hour every Tuesday and Thursday.

The Jazz Choir / ABAC Singers has performed at Walt Disney World on the International Stage at Epcot, two cathedrals
in New York City, the World Trade Center Site, and each spring, at Jazz Festivals in the southeast. They perform for all special
events at the college and all ABAC Graduations.

The Chamber Singers have performed Gabriel Faure’s Requiem with Dr. Paul Neal and his choirs at Lincoln Center’s
Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. They continue to perform and tour throughout the southeast, recruiting students for the
college and choir. In the spring of 2017, the Chamber Singers once again were invited to sing at Walt Disney World in the newly
renovated Disney Springs at the “Waterview Park Stage” and also were privileged to perform Duruflé’s Requiem with the Albany
Symphony Orchestra and other college choirs as part of ABAC Presents!
