Week 1: Connect via gmail (for google doc) and phone number (group chat)

Week 2: DUE OCTOBER 7 11:59PM: Each group member should present at least two opportunities to the group

(you can do this by adding it to the list on the next page).

Week 3: DUE OCTOBER 13: Check-in one! At least 4 of the nine opportunities should be uploaded at this point.

Please make sure it has been uploaded to the “research.honors1015” document! Completing this check-point will

allow Alex to begin compiling the presentation and prevent it from piling up.

Week 4: DUE NOVEMBER 4 11:59PM: Check-in two! At this point, all of the opportunities should be uploaded.

Please make sure the “research.honors1015” document is updated! At this point, Alex can complete the presentation.

Week 5: Week of November 8-12: Zoom Call practice! Nevaeh Baker will share a google form poll for when we

can meet. This will be as flexible as possible so we can ALL run through the presentation. This call should not take

more than an hour. Nevaeh Bakerwill organize the meeting.

Week 6: Week of November 15th (class meets on November 18th) PRESENT!

1) Cooking Class Assistant Teacher


a) This activity includes helping the non profit organization, New Leaf Kitchen, that offers cooking

classes for anyone who wants to join. The time frames for this activity include: 11/30, 12/07,

12/14 from 1:45-4:00pm. With this activity, they value consistency with your ability to be present.

This makes the classes better for the kids! You can start the application process by clicking the

“respond” button at the bottom of the page that is linked: Cooking Class Assistant Teacher

Tuesday 11/30 | University of Cincinnati (uc.edu). They also request that you have passed a

background check and signed a medical form. If you have any questions, text Annie at 513 -399-

9996.

2) Kitty City Cat Socialization (and more opportunities in the same facility) Kitty City Volunteering |

University of Cincinnati (uc.edu) AND Animal Shelter Volunteer Opportunities in Cincinnati, OH

(cincinnatianimalcare.org)

a) This activity includes volunteering at Cincinnati Animal Care Humane Society of Hamilton

County in their “kitty city” department. With this role, you are responsible for interacting with the

cats in any way they need or like, in hopes to increase their chances of being adopted. The goal is

to make them more friendly or appealing to potential adopters. This activity requires an

application, orientation completion (a series of videos and questions), and a dog training session (a

series of videos and questions). The dog training is required no matter what work you are doing at

the shelter. With that being said, there are many different opportunities at this shelter. These

include work with both cats AND dogs (:. The location of the shelter is 3949 Colerain Ave.,

Cincinnati, OH 45223, and kitty city cat socialization shifts are from 12-2pm or 4-6pm. The

second link can be used to start the application process!

1) Hoxworth Blood Donations https://hoxworth.org/

a) Hoxworth serves more than 30 hospitals in the Tri-State, so your donation could change the life of

someone in your community. One donation can save up to three lives. By separating blood into

components, you can help multiple people with your red cells, platelets, and plasma. Every five

minutes, someone in the Tri-State area needs blood. You never know when you, a family member,

a neighbor, or friend will need an emergency blood transfusion.A whole blood donation usually

takes less than an hour —and only 10 minutes of that is spent in the donation chair!

2) Bearcat Pantry https://www.uc.edu/campus-life/dean-of-students/bearcats-pantry/bearcats-pantry-

a) The UC Bearcats Pantry (BCP) and Resource Center provides free food, hygiene items, cleaning

supplies, and professional clothing to students of all backgrounds with food and other insecurities.

The BCP needs volunteers to sort, stock, check expiration dates, assist visitors during their

appointments, compiling orders, and other general tasks. Typical hours for the BCP are 9am-5pm,

1) Matthew 25 Ministries https://m25m.org/work/\

a) This activity includes working in the Matthew 25: Ministries Processing Center located here in

Cincinnati: 11060 Kenwood Rd, Blue Ash, OH 45242. You will sort, count packages, and put

supplies on pallets to ship out to those in need. The supplies are donated from organizations,

corporations, and individuals from everywhere. Single volunteers are supposed to sign uo ahead of

time for shifts from 9am-4pm mon-fri and 9am-3pm on saturday. Groups are HIGHLY

recommended to sign up ahead of time for a shift.To sign up for a shift, contact Shelly Clos via

2) CancerFree Kids -Night for the Fight https://cancerfreekids.org/

a) CancerFree KIDS' Night for the Fight, presented by TQL Foundation, is an experience created by

high school students, for high school students. It not only raises much needed money for pediatric

cancer research, it inspires the next generation to join the battle to eliminate childhood cancer. It is
a once a year, one week long event. A simple Donation of $10 can help out alot and you can get

your picture on the virtual photo wall. Volunteers are needed to help with Set up,

Games/Activities, Food and other areas. When you register, you can select a preferred area, shift

and who you would like to work with.

Brandi

1) “UC Knits Child Scarf Turn In”

This organization meets on Thursdays from 7-8 at Lindner Hall 1210. UC Knits is a social/community

service club that focuses on creating handmade hats, scarves, and plarn mats that go to people without

homes here in Cincinnati as well as around the world. You must be 17 or older.

2) “Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank” Diaper Wrapper

Days and hours vary, but daytime, evening, and weekend shifts are available, music and free coffee, family

friendly, and 12 years and older! Wheel chair accessible, and groups up to 15 can be accommodated.

Unpack and organize diaper shipments, pick diaper orders, and possibly load orders into vehicles of

participating agencies.

1) “Life Forward Communications/Graphic Design Volunteer Assistant https://volunteer.uc.edu/need/detail/?

need_id=370609 Marketing, communications, and graphic design skills can be put to use in this position!

Volunteers will primarily help create logos and signs for events, newsletters and website updates. They will

also work with the director of development.

2) “Animal Care for Pets in Homeless Shelters” https://volunteer.uc.edu/need/detail/?need_id=206015 This

organization needs volunteers to help take care of pets for people in homeless shelters since most shelters do not

allow pets. Essentially, you feed them, give them water, walk the dogs, clean litter boxes, and you get to play with

the animals!
