wheel assemblies and brake assemblies.
2. To give warnings about parts in Goodrich wheel assemblies and brake assemblies and hub
caps that are cadmium plated or contain beryllium, ceramic fibers, or asbestos.
REASON
Procedures for use of chemicals and materials can change, and maintenance personnel must
obey the newest safety procedures.
PROCEDURE
Your employer and you must obey the instructions that follow for chemicals and for specific
materials. Also obey government regulations that tell you how to safely use, keep, and discard

1. CHEMICALS - Obey the warning below for maintenance of Goodrich wheel assemblies,
brake assemblies, and hub caps.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU USE CHEMICALS, READ, UNDERSTAND, AND OBEY ALL
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CHEMICALS. THESE INSTRUCTIONS
INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER, THE MATERIAL
SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS), AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS.
CHEMICALS MAY CAUSE INJURY TO YOU OR MAKE YOU SICK WHEN
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT OBEYED. AN MSDS GIVES
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW YOU MUST SAFELY USE, KEEP, AND DISCARD
CHEMICALS. GET INSTRUCTIONS FROM YOUR EMPLOYER ON HOW
YOU MUST SAFELY USE, KEEP, AND DISCARD CHEMICALS.
2. CADMIUM - Obey the warnings below before you touch or do maintenance on parts that are
cadmium plated. Many small steel parts are cadmium plated. Stainless steel parts are not
cadmium plated. The Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) sets
mandatory limits on exposure to cadmium dust (29 CFR 1910.1027).
The Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) has an applicable DANGER
warning (29 CFR 1910.1027 (m)(3)(ii)) as follows:
3. ASBESTOS - Obey the warning below before you touch or do maintenance on parts that
contain asbestos. Some old insulators, spacers, and brake linings can contain asbestos. The
Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) sets mandatory limits on exposure
to asbestos dust (29 CFR 1910.1001).
The Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) has an applicable DANGER
warning (29 CFR 1910.1001 (j)(4)(ii)) as follows:
4. BERYLLIUM or BERYLLIUM COPPER ALLOYS - Obey the warning below before you touch
or do maintenance on parts that contain beryllium. Assemblies that contain these parts are
shown in Figure 1. The Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) sets
mandatory limits on exposure to dust or fumes from beryllium or beryllium copper alloys
(29 CFR 1910.1000).
All of the parts shown in Figure 1 are made of beryllium copper alloys that are included in
MSDS No. A10. The newest MSDS is available from:
5. CERAMIC FIBERS- Obey the warning below before you do maintenance on parts that
contain ceramic fibers. Assemblies that contain ceramic fibers are shown in Figure 2. The
Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Refractory Ceramic Fibers
Coalition (RCFC) have a voluntary personnel protection program (PSP 2002, Feb. 11, 2002).
This program gives limits on personnel exposure to ceramic fibers.
Refer to the circled numbers ( ) in the part number column. A part number with one
circled number shows the type of ceramic fiber material in that part. A part number with two circled
numbers has one of the two possible types of ceramic fibers in that part. The circled numbers
identify ceramic fibers as follows:
