Assignment 3

1.       What measures (Operating system, application software, network, hardware, etc…) are
there in your computer to secure your data from hacking?

To protect my Operating system (Windows 10) from unwanted software and spywares, I have
Microsoft Defender installed in my system. I have also bought a yearly subscription of
Kaspersky Internet Security that performs regular scans and protects my computer from any
type of virus. Antivirus software is crucial for detecting viruses, especially from the internet.
Whenever an external device is connected, such as an external hard drive the antivirus
performs a scan to make sure no virus is present.

When it comes to setting passwords online, I use Google Chrome’s password generator that
automatically generates a password and saves it in the password manager. The password
consists of a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols and can only be accessed through
my google account. In case of hackers trying to access my google account, I have two-factor
authentication set on google ID. The spam emails usually arrive in the spam folder of my Gmail
account that helps me to avoid clicking on spam links.

2.       How often do you back up critical data files such as homework files? What type of
device do you use for backing up files? Where do you store the backups to ensure they won’t
be destroyed if a major disaster (such as a fire) destroys your computer? Do you use online
sites for file backups?

I backup my critical data files at least once a month. Firstly, I use an external hard drive to back
all my files in case of any major disaster that causes the hard drive to crash or my computer to
destroy. For my homework files, I usually back them in my Google Drive account. My files in
Google Drive can be accessed from any computer just by logging in to my Google account. So in
case of a major disaster, my crucial files are always backed up and safe in both my external hard
drive and in online cloud storage Google drive.
