Product Comparison and Conclusion

Bath Soap Both Safeguard and Irish Springs are meant to
cleanse our body and remove dirt and excess oils
that can contribute to unpleasant odors. They are
also intended to help wash away bacteria that can
lead to infection. Both brands have almost the
same ingredient, but the ingredients of Irish
Spring bath soap found it to be 91% Top Allergen
Free and free of Gluten, Nickel, Top Common
Allergy Causing Preservatives, Lanolin, MCI/MI,
Topical Antibiotic, Paraben, Soy, Propylene
Glycol, Oil, and Irritant/Acid. Product is Teen
Safe. While the brand Safeguard found it to be
containing triclocarban, the FDA's proposed rule
came after data suggested that long-term exposure
to triclocarban might lead to bacterial resistance
or have hormonal effects. Both products have
almost the same price. With the formulation,
indicated precautions, ingredients, and price, it
concludes that the Irish Spring bath soap must be
a better and safer choice. Therefore, based on
facts that we compare, I chose Irish Spring brand
than the Safeguard
Detergent Both Tide and Surf Detergent Powder are
substance that is used for cleaning, they are
powerful cleanser that can break up dirt, oils, and
grease in clothing or on dishes. The ingredients of
Surd Detergent Powder are Sodium carbonate,
Sodium aluminosilicate, Sodium alkylbenzene
sulfonate, Alcohol ethoxylate, Sodium perborate
monohydrate while the ingredients of Tide
Detergent Powder are almost the same as the Surf
Powder expect that it contains it contains some
ingredients like sodium polyacrylate and alkyl
sulfates that can cause irritations, allergies, and
damage to our skin and even our respiratory
system. Surf Detergent Powder have the cheaper
price compared to Tide. In addition, Surf is safer
to our environment. Therefore, based on facts that
we compare, I will choose Surf Detergent Powder
 than the Tide Detergent Powder.
Shampoo
Both Pantene and Dove Shampoo are cleansing
agent, they provide the cleaning of the scalp skin
and hair, it serves to condition and beautify hair
and acts as an adjunct in the management of
various scalp disorders. Both brands are sulfate
free, paraben free, dye-free and safe to use on
dyed hair. Additionally, both products have
almost the same ingredients but the Dove
Shampoo contains SLS or Sodium Laureth
Sulfates that are known to strip off natural oils
from the scalp and hair. It makes hair dry and
brittle. And if your scalp is sensitive, sulfates can
cause irritation like redness, dryness, and itching.
Both brands have almost the same price also.
Therefore, based on facts that we compare, I will
choose the Pantene than Dove shampoo.
Baby Powder Both Johnson’s Baby Powder and Tender Care
Powder are used to prevent or treat diaper rash
around infants' bottoms and genital areas. It is also
used by men and women to reduce body odors.
Both brands have almost the same ingredients, but
the brand Johnson’s Baby Powder allege that the
company’s talc products like baby powders have
been contaminated with asbestos that can cause
breathing problems. When is comes to price, both
products have almost the same price. Therefore,
based on facts that we compare, I will choose the
brand Tender Care Baby Powder than Johnson’s
Baby Powder
Lotion Both Silka and Vaseline Lotion maintain skin's
hydration levels by locking in the moisture,
keeping the skin healthy, soft, and supple. Both
brands have almost the same ingredients and
vitamins but Vaseline Lotion contains Paraben,
Through the use of paraben, the skin can get
brittle, cracked, painful, swollen, develop rashes
and several other problems. It may even result in
contact dermatitis, which is a serious type of skin
inflammation characterized by rashes, blisters and
burning skin. Parabens may cause the skin to age
faster. Both products have almost the same price.
Therefore, based on facts that we compare, I will
choose the brand Silka Lotion than Vaseline
Lotion.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

In our everyday life we use different products, and it is very significant for
us to know the chemistry behind these items or products. It is important for
us to know the ingredients or compounds that a product contains for us to
know if it is bad or safe for our health. We have to know the product we use,
because without this information we are unable to make informed decision
about continuing the use of those products. Additionally, knowing this
information about the product will makes us safe, knowing what will happen
to us if a product contains toxic compound. Advancement in knowing the
chemistry behind the products we use can also lead us to a better sanitation
and a better life.
