A. Introduction
TACHOMETER

A tachometer refers to any device that produces a signal proportional to the speed of

rotation of a joint. There are many different types of tachometers, some based on measuring
the frequency of, or the time between, pulses generated by the rotating shaft. Any angle-
measuring device can be used to simulate a tachometer by numerical differencing,The
tachometer, or tach, is an instrument that indicates the speed of the crankshaft of
a reciprocating engine. It can be a direct- or remote-indicating instrument, the dial of which is
calibrated to indicate revolutions per minutes (rpm). On reciprocating engines, the tach is
used to monitor engine power and to ensure the engine is operated within certified limits.Gas
turbine engines also have tachometers. They are used to monitor the speed(s) of
the compressor section(s) of the engine. Turbine engine tachometers are calibrated in
percentage of rpm with 100 percent corresponding to optimum turbine speed. This allows
similar operating procedures despite the varied actual engine rpm of different engines.

B.On Site

1.Identification Component

 open the nut on the back of the tachometer and open the washer
 open the front of the tachometer
 then the product of the tachometer and housing components
 then identify the components of the tachometer

2.Function

UNSERVICEABLE
A tachometer is a device for counting. It is used to show the number of revolutions per minute
(RPM) of the aircraft engine. An airplane needs one tachometer for each of its engines.

3.Removal

 Identify the components of the tachometer

 Attach the tachometer component to the housing
 Close the front of the tachometer
 Close the nut on the back of the tachometer and close the washer

4. Inspection
 Permanent magnet (rotating magnet)
 Drag cup
 Spring
 Indicating niddle (pointer)
 Coil spring
