ACTIVITY DESIGN
The Madaris for Peace (MAP) project, a special non formal education program recognized by the provincial local government of
Sarangani (PLGU-Sarangani) since 2002 is composed of 125 Asatids (teachers) called Madaris Facilitators who conducts
weekend Arabic classes and Islamic values education in the six Muslim dominated Municipalities of Sarangani Province. Based
on the enrollment data for SY 2020-2021, there are over 3000 Mulits (learners) in the 49 Madrasah centers in the entire province
from kinder to grade six. The MAP remains to be in the forefront of providing basic Arabic literacy and Islamic values education to
the Muslim learners of Sarangani despite the challenges on education brought about by the current pandemic.
The recent Performance Evaluation conducted by the Madaris Secretariat revealed that there is a need for a more adaptive
learning methodologies and strategies to address the learning gaps and challenges and become more child centered.
Specifically, in subjects like Tawheed (Oneness of Allah), test scores of respondents are low. Moreover, the student’s application
of the subject needs to be enhanced as it have been observed that low self-esteem of students is attributed to less empowering
teaching methodologies. Hence, there is a need for a more dynamic learning process and application of a more relevant teaching
strategies.
To ensure that the MAP is adaptable to the current context and to ensure that the most relevant learning competencies is
introduced to the children, there is a need for an urgent curriculum review and module development since weekend classes in the
Madrasah for school year 2021-2022 has already started. The curriculum review aims to develop utilizable weekly modules that
includes learning outcomes, learning objectives, learning activity sheets, pre test and post test. The final output of the workshop
will be reproduced & used by all the Madaris in Sarangani starting the third quarter of the school year in November 2021.
Moreover, to ensure that the Madaris Modules is aligned to the standards of the Department of Education, the process will ensure
that the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) are incorporated. A curriculum expert with an intensive experience in the
curriculum development of the Tahderiyyah, Ms. Jennifer Dagadas from DepEd Region 12 will accompany the curriculum team of
a DepEd a recognized Madrasah, the Dar Ul Uloom Wal Hikmah (School of Knowledge & Wisdom) or DUH. DUH has earned

recognition by the DepEd in the Region and in the national for having developed a very systematic learning module that is
currently utilized for distance learning.
The curriculum team is composed of Islamic Subjects & Arabic Language (ISAL) teachers, Revised Basic Education Curriculum
(RBEC) teachers particularly their Filipino teachers to assure that the Modules will be translated in Filipino. Furthermore, the
school principal will join to provide and share inputs on their experience as needed and lastly to speed up the process and see to
it that the outputs will be generated in electronic and hard copies, their Arabic encoders and technical staffs will join the facilitation
team.
The expertise and experience of the DUH will be blended with the selected Asatids of Madaris to ensure that the Module is a
product of a highly participative process and is contextualized in the setting of Sarangani. Some of the selected Asatids are also
members of the Hay A Tul Ulama in Sarangani so the quality of the Modules in terms of its alignment with correct Islamic
teachings will be assured.
Prior to the workshop, coordination meetings with DUH & DepEd were already carried out. Continuous data gathering, analysis &
contextualization were done by the Madaris Team & DUH by way of presenting to them the existing curriculum of the Madaris and
the result of the Performance Evaluation. Subsequently, the DUH team presented their findings and suggestions after reviewing
the Madaris Curriculum and together with the DepEd curriculum expert and Madaris secretariat, the detailed workshop flow is
created.
For the DUH team to further support the Madaris, their reference materials, books and resources in the different subjects will be
shared and utilized in the workshop and they will also use their laptops and involve their technical team of translators and
encoders in Arabic & English to speed up the process of module writing.
The six (6) full days workshop will be very dynamic and complex and needs utmost attention and sincerity by all the participants.
The curriculum team will be divided into seven or eight groups based on the pre identified subjects, each group will be composed
of one or two ISAL teachers from DUH, three or four Asatids from Sarangani and one encoder. The ISAL teachers will serve as
facilitators & quality assurance to the group and the Filipino translators will be responsible for translation of Arabic texts. This set
up will make sure that content will come from the Asatids of Sarangani to ensure that there is ownership of the Modules and for
the DUH Team to transfer their skills and strategies in Module writing.

workshop and the speed of the team, learning modules for Quarter 4 can also be drafted. The outputs will undergo another round
