classmates it’s nice to see you

The teacher will call the names of the pupils in
alphabetical order.
B. Review
Okay class, do you still remember our topic before Yes, Teacher Jess!
we had our review?

What was it? Our topic before we had our

review is the Divisibility Rules.

Wow! Very good!

C. Motivation
Now class, I am going to present a video. I want you
all to watch and listen attentively, okay? Yes, Teacher Jess!

(Presenting the video related to the topic)

D. Lesson Proper
According to what you have seen in the video, we
need to know the factors of a number. Right? Yes, Teacher Jess!

So, our topic for today is all about Prime

Factorization.

Let us Get Ready! Open your book on page 27 and (The pupils are answering the
answer Take A Look Back Letter A in two minutes. given activity)

(Please insert the checking here)

Very Good!

Who among you here have an idea what is prime

factorization? Prime factorization is finding the
factors of a number that is
prime.
Wow, very good!

Or in other words, prime factorization is a way of Yes, Teacher Jess!

expressing a number as a product of its prime
factors.
(Please present an example.)

But, do you all know what a prime number is? Yes, Teacher Jess!

So, what is a prime number? A prime number is a number

that has two factors, 1 and
itself.
Very Good! Can you give me an example of a prime
number? 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13, Teacher.

Wow, Very Good!

How about 8? Is 8 a prime number or not?

No teacher, 8 has more than
What do we call to the numbers that has two or more two factors.
factors? Composite numbers.

Very Good!

What are the examples of composite numbers?

4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 are examples
of composite numbers,
How about the word factors? What does it mean? Teacher.

Very Good! Factors are numbers that you

multiply to get another number.
Factors are numbers that if we multiply together the
product is another number.

Okay, let’s now proceed on factorization.

Who can give me a pair of numbers whose product is

18?
Pupil 1: 9 x 2, Teacher.
Very Good! 18 can be divided by 2 but since 9 is not
a prime number we need to go further.

Can we divide 9 by 2?

Pupil 2: No teacher, if we divide

Excellent! How about number 3? Can we divide 9 by 9 by 2 the answer is 4 ½.
3?
Pupil 3: Yes, Teacher Jess, if 9
Very Good! Since 3 is a prime number therefore, the is divided by 3 the answer is 3.
factors of 18 are 3 x 3 x 2.

18

9 2

3 3
Can we divide 175 by 2?

Yes, it can’t be, the answer should be whole number Pupil 4: No, Teacher. The
and 87 ½ is not. answer is 87 ½.

Let’s try the next prime number.

175 ÷ 3 = 58.333333 OR 58
How about number 5?
175 ÷ 5 =?

Very Good! Now, let’s find the factors of 35. Pupil 4: The answer is 35,
35 ÷ 5 = 7 and 7 ÷ 7 = 1 Teacher.

Therefore, the factors of 175 is 5 x 5 x 7.

175

5 35

5 7

Let’s try another method, using continuous division.

18 2 175 5
9 3 35 5
3 7

E. Generalization

How do you find prime factors?

In finding prime factors we need

to divide the smallest prime
number to find the smallest
prime factor of the number and
divide the quotient by the
smallest prime number.
IV. Evaluation
The teacher will give a book activity “Solve on Your
Own” letter A and B on page 29 to assess the learning of
the pupils. It will be answered within 10 minutes only;
afterwards, checking will be done.

(Please include here the checking.)

V. Assignment
