Electrical interview write-up

1. Can you introduce yourself?

- My name is Shankar Ashok Chavan.

2. How many years of experience as an electrician do you have?


- 15 years
3. Where do you learn
- I passed Maharashtra government’s electrician exam in 2003. Then in 2014 I
passed electrical supervisor exam which is equivalent to degree then I got
license.
4. How many projects have you worked on?
- Around 60 to 70.
5. Can you tell about any particular project?
- Yes sure, I did a project in Kondhava in which they handed over the site after
architecture. I mainly did house wiring there
6. How much time does it require to finish wiring for a 2 bhk flat?
- From start to end it take 1 or 2 months
7. Do you prefer to work on your own or with a team?
- In team.
8. Which instruments do you use in electrical installation?
- From toolkit we need drill machine, cutter machine, screwdriver, plier,
regular spanners for fitting. For materials there are wires, multistrand wires,
MCB, ELCB, switch and sockets.
9. Do you also do cost estimation? How much it will cost for complete electrical
wiring 2 BHK flat
- Yes. For a 2 BHK flat according to today’s market it will cost around 70-
75,000/-.
10. What safety procedures do you follow to protect yourself from electrical
accidents?
- Firstly we sure the worker is wearing safety boots, we should use wooden
ladder instead of aluminium and if someone is working on height safety belt
is must.
11. What type of electrical work are you most familiar with?
- Both commercial and residential.
12. How would you wire a two-way switch?
- Two way switches has three terminals, in which middle one is common.
Supply is provided from one side, from third terminal wire is provided to
switch we need to operate.
13. Which types of wires are available in market?
- Wires are available according to brand name. There are 13 to 15 brands. We
usually check for FR and FR-LS
14. Which electrical faults you observe regularly?
- If there is an LCD panel its choke can be damaged, in fan condenser can be
damaged. Switch gets slipped after using for years.
15. What are the standard ratings of switches?
- There is 6 ampere which we use for wiring tube light, fan etc. For power
point switch is of 15 ampere
16. What is the difference between a fuse and a breaker?
- Fuses and circuit breakers are both designed to interrupt the flow of
electricity. The fuse works as a piece of metal that melts down when
overheated. While a circuit breaker works by operating a switching
mechanism when an overflow of electricity is detected
17. How has the electrical industry changed since you started working in it?
- A lot, in past there were wooden switch boards, then pipes and casing strip
and now there is concealed wiring. In concealed wiring types switches also
changed, they look a lot sober now
18. How do you stay up to date on changes in industry?
- I learn from experience. You have basic knowledge, if there is any new
machine they provide you a manual and specifications. If you can understand
it then you can easily wire it.
19. List the most important skills for electricians to have.
- One has to know to be decorative on project. Must have basic knowledge of
electrical. Know the toolkit and can instruct the labour on how to use them
correctly.
