The Devil Wears Prada Film Review
The Devil Wears Prada Film Review
The movie “The Devil Wears Prada” directed by David Frankel staring Anne Hathaway is a fun
movie that is sure to make anyone laugh. The beginning of the movies starts with a montage of
the different girls getting ready for work. They dress in nice clothes, eat healthy food, and look
all put together. The cinematography in these clips show us exactly what we want to see and
nothing more. The camera angle only shows the put together girls instead of the whole world
around them. This makes it look like they are perfect but that is just the placement of what is put
in front of the camera. During the montage we see one of the girls looking at cut out magazine
clips; they use an over the shoulder camera shot so the watcher can see exactly what the
character is looking at. We soon realize that Andy (Anne Hathaway) is not perfect when the
camera is following her at her new job. Everything turns to chaos and the camera cuts many
different times to show the work office versus the big fashion designer. Overall, the use of
cinematography in the different camera angels and in the timing of cuts are very important in this
movie. Throughout the entire movie long shots are used to show the characters entire body and
to show the environment they are in. These shots are important because the movie is about
fashion, so we need to see whole outfits to understand some of the context. We also see ariel
shots of New York City after some scenes which help us understand the energy of the city. Some
cuts in the movie show a cut from one day to another but all at the same time of day. This helps
us see many days in a short period of time so we can understand that each is alike in some way.
The use of cut shots are also seen to show the change out outfits in the main character when she
gets a sense of style. I enjoy the use of cinematography because it stops the movie from getting
boring. If cuts were not used, the movie would be way too long and not be able to keep drawing
the audience in. However, the cuts let us see many different angles of one scene and let us see
one day in two seconds. I did not mention the use of music because I only wanted to talk about
cinematography, but I will say the music creates the atmosphere in our ear and almost makes it
like you are in the movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who like fashion or would
