‫ﻣﺒﻴﻌﺎ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺸﺮق اﻷوﺳﻂ‪ .‬ﻳﻌﺘﺒﺮه اﻟﻜﺜﻴﺮون ﻓﻲ اﻟﺸﺮق اﻷوﺳﻂ ﺑﺄﻧﻪ أﺳﻄﻮرة ﺣﻴﺔ‪ .‬ﻳﻌﺮف أﻳﻀﺎ ﺑﺎﻷب‬

‫ﻓﻘﻂ ﻣﻦ اﻷﻟﺒﻮﻣﺎت‪ ،‬اﺑﺘﻜﺮ ﻋﻤﺮو دﻳﺎب ﻧﻮع ﻣﻮﺳﻴﻘﻲ ﺧﺎص ﺑﻪ ﻣﻦ ﺧﻼل اﻟﻤﺰج ﺑﻴﻦ اﻟﺮاي ‪،‬‬
‫اﻟﻔﻼﻣﻨﻜﻮ ‪ ،‬و ﻣﻮﺳﻴﻘﻰ اﻟﺒﻮب اﻟﻐﺮﺑﻴﺔ ﻣﻊ اﻷﺻﻮات اﻟﻌﺮﺑﻴﺔ اﻟﺘﻘﻠﻴﺪﻳﺔ‪ .‬واﺻﻞ ﻓﻲ إﻃﻼق أﻟﺒﻮﻣﺎﺗﻪ اﻟﺘﻲ‬

‫ﺑﺘﺼﻮﻳﺮ اﻟﻔﻴﺪﻳﻮ ﻛﻠﻴﺐ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺴﺘﻮى ﺗﻘﻨﻲ ﻣﺮﺗﻔﻊ‪ .‬أﻟﺒﻮﻣﻪ ﻋﺎم ‪ 1996‬ﺑﻌﻨﻮان ﻧﻮر اﻟﻌﻴﻦ ﻗﺪ ﻧﺸﺮ اﺳﻤﻪ‬
‫ﻓﻲ ﺑﺎﻗﻲ أﻧﺤﺎء اﻟﻌﺎﻟﻢ و أﺻﺒﺢ اﻟﻔﻨﺎن اﻷﻛﺜﺮ ﻣﺒﻴﻌﺎ ﻣﻨﺬ ذﻟﻚ اﻟﺤﻴﻦ‪.‬‬

2. Egyptian musician Amr Diab is the current face of pop music in Egypt. The pop or rock
genre is known as geel in Egypt. Of all Arab recording artists, Diab has sold the most
records. In fact, he is a four-time recipient of the World Music Award for Best Selling
Middle Eastern Artist. Many people in the Middle East consider him to be a living
legend. He is also known as the Father of Mediterranean music, which blends the
rhythms of Egypt with Western styles of music.

3. Diab’s father played a major role in turning him onto music starting at an early age.
When he was just 6 years old, Diab performed at a festival in Port Said. The governor
awarded him a guitar for his talent at that time.

4. His first studio album was called Ya Tareeq, and it came out in 1983 to a lot of fanfare.
After just a handful of albums, he had created his own genre of music by mixing rai,
flamenco, and Western pop music with more traditional Arabic sounds. He continued to
release smash hit albums through the years, and in 1992 he became the first musician in
the Arab world to begin creating music videos that were very high tech. His 1996 album
Nour El Ain brought his name to the attention of the rest of the world, and he’s been a top
selling artist ever since.

5. Diab has also appeared in a handful of films, including El Afareet, in which he played
himself. He also starred in Ice Cream in Gleam and Laughter and Fun, although he has
not made any films since 1993.

CULTURAL INSIGHT

Amr Diab appeared in a Pepsi commercial that has played in various markets all over the
world. In addition to Diab, the commercial included singers Pink, Britney Spears, Beyonce
Knowles, and Jennifer Lopez. For the American version of the commercial, Diab was
replaced by Enrique Iglesias. Diab also had roles in other Pepsi commercials that featured
some of his songs. Additionally, he was paired with Jennifer Lopez for a commercial in which
they were singing the Troggs' "Wild Thing" together. Pepsi dropped him as a spokesperson in
