Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
• Decided to write instructions list for Chicken Cutlets because there is a decent number of
steps and I can take pictures along the way
• Buy ingredients to make Chicken Cutlets
• Plan what I would want to know and what I learned along the way making this recipe
• Researched different recipes and their formatting

First Draft (for peer editing)

• Made recipe and wrote down steps along the way
• Took pictures to remember each step as I did it and what the food should look like
• Put exact measurements and wrote basic description of all the steps down
• Put different bullet points with each step and added separate bullet points for each tip along
the way

Second Draft (for your packet)

• Added pictures
• Color coordinated to have a theme
• Fixed overall layout and added more in-depth descriptions to each step
• Added lines and bolded headings

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

• Made drastic changes to the appearance by adding shading, more eye-catching fonts, and
dimension
• Used numbers for bullet points instead of roman numerals
• Put pictures at bottom of each step instead of off to the side
• Used complete sentences and punctuation
