Love Your Enemy

Matthew 5 : 43-48

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil
and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Matthew 5 : 43-48

46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax
collectors doing that?
47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not
even pagans do that?
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
We all love people who are nice to us.
 But it isn't easy to be nice
to those who are mean to you.
 Jesus teaches that to be like God,

we have to do more than what comes naturally to us.

Jesus says we must love our enemies.
But how???

★ We must be kind and respectful to them.

★ We must put their needs before ours.

★ We must not treat them badly.

What if???

Someone yells at you?

Speak kindly to them anyway.
What if???

Someone hits you?

Don’t hit back, just walk away and
get an elder to help you.
What if???

Someone takes something that is yours?

Give them whatever they need.
Don’t steal from them.
 The Bible says "a soft answer turns away wrath." (Prov. 15:1).
It is difficult for someone to continue being mean to you if you don't let it get you angry. It
takes away their fun in it.
Do you have any enemies?
 1. Pray for them

2. Forgive them and start over

3. Never talk badly about them

4. Help them (study, make friends)

5. List their good points in your mind.

6. Teach them about Jesus

How do enemies make us feel?
How should we feel toward our enemies?
How does God feel towards his enemies?
Name 2 nice things Jesus did while on earth.
Name 2 ways we can be nice to our enemies.
 Memory Verse:
Luke 6:27
“But to you who are listening I say:
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate
you”
Craft:
1.Mutli-colour foam sheets.
2.Cut the red colour sheet to heart shape
3. Cut the other colour sheets to circle shape
4. Draw a smiley on each of the coloured sheets
5. Write “Love Your Enemies” in a paper and stick it in the centre of the heart.
6. Stick other smileys around it.
