Lesson Objective

After reading The Moose of Ewenki, students will be asked to explore the web and find an example of an

animal in Native American folklore. Once they have selected a legend, students will be asked to write a

one-page (minimum of ten sentences) reflection on their findings. The paper must include a summary of

the legend and why the animal in the tale is important to the specific group of people. Class discussion

will be held where students can choose to share their findings. Papers will be submitted at the end of

class.

Procedures

1. Students will read The Moose of Ewenki.

2. Teacher will explain the assignment to the class.

3. Students will individually search the internet for an example of an animal in Native American

folklore.

4. After reading their selected legend, students will write a one-page (minimum of ten sentences)

reflection of their findings. The reflection must include a summary of the legend and why the

animal in the tale is important to the specific group of people.

5. After students have finished writing, class discussion will be held where students can volunteer

to share their findings.

6. Papers will be collected at the end of class for assessment.
