IOT
IOT application in Walmart Grocery :

IoT application in Walmart not only monitors the temperature of the individual unit to ensure
proper food safety standards but also looks at how the equipment is performing and takes
proactive steps towards maintenance repairs to reduce the cost and downtime caused by
equipment failure. If the signal received requires additional information, it is sent to the
maintenance team through a cloud application where the team will triage the issue and determine
the best course of action. That could include leveraging a store associate to take additional steps,
repairing an IT connection issue, submitting a work order and getting a technician on-site to look
at the unit or by making changes remotely to the equipment.

Walmart uses Internet of Things (IoT) at a scale unmatched across retail to improve food quality,
lower energy consumption and keep costs low for our customers,” Currently, Walmart manages
more than 7 million unique IoT data points across our U.S. stores. Every day, this network of
connected devices sends almost 1.5 billion messages regarding temperature, operating functions
and energy use.

According to the World Economic Forum. IoT solutions have allowed food retailers to reduce
food loss by 40 percent and experience a net energy savings of 30 percent.

Walmart Canada chose SES-imagotag Retail IoT Cloud platform, the global leader in shelf-edge
solutions, to bring accurate pricing and product information to the shelves. The SES-imagotag
digital store shelf technology enables centralized price monitoring and managing, which in turn
helps the retailer improve safety, provide consistent and timely pricing and promotions, and
optimize product assortment in the stores. It improves employee satisfaction by freeing up time
from cumbersome low value-added tasks and allowing them to focus on customer service and
merchandizing tasks.
Walmart uses DLS Labs' DL Freight platform which helps them manage more than 500,000
carrier shipments annually. The platform automates all transactions and data points using GPS
and IoT to track everything. The platform automates all transactions and data points using GPS
and IoT to track everything has reduced shipping discrepancies by 97%. The DL Freight
platform automatically captures all applicable information from each carrier, IoT devices, and
Walmart Canada in real time. The information is shared and synchronized on a single distributed
ledger, which is visible only to the parties involved in the transaction.

Conclusion

Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are helping food retailers to maintain the quality and safety
of our food using the least amount of energy possible. IoT sensor systems enable data-driven
action that can transform food retail sustainability via proven reductions in food loss from
temperature monitoring and energy savings.
