MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

WHAT’S NEW

Activity 1: Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow.
Imagine waking up one day to find no internet, libraries, and cellphones, newspapers,
magazines, radio stations and TV channels have also disappeared.

1. How would you be informed of anything now?

I can still be informed of anything but with limited information only. It could be, by
means of verbal information which could be, personally be said to me or through
handwritten letters which will be sent to me given that the purpose is to inform me.

2. What ways could you have to communicate with each other?

Basically, when no internet and any modern device to be used in communicating,

it is just a call for us to use the old fashioned way of communicating through verbal and
and handwritten. For example you will be celebrating your birthday, in order to inform
and invite your friends, probably the first thing to come cross through your mind is to give
them invitation letters. It might take time but it is your only choice given in that scenario.

3. How would you share information and communicate news and events?

Personally, I would communicate through verbal and handwritten letters. When

there is an event coming, I will give my time and announce ahead of the date of that
particular event. Everyone can be an informant, it is their strategy how they will
effectively communicate and share news to everyone.

4. How would it affect the way you live?

Honestly, it is very difficult. It made my living way too difficult to handle. Modern
device and internet help me throughout everything, and the omission of this is my great
weakness. My idea of easy, convenient and hassle free flow of communication just puff
through the air. My schooling, my work, my urgent meetings and many more will be
considered as useless because I couldn’t do anything with this limited resources.

5. What would society lose in this situation?

The society would lose the ability to communicate in a convenient and easier
way. It will be a great lose and definitely various problems and misunderstanding might
come up.

information in a certain respective activities. Moreover, Technology literacy is the device
that can be used in performing the actions be taking in sending the activities.

.

They all have one very important commonality, which is the acquisition of
knowledge. Once you have this knowledge it’s your responsibility to find out and check
its veracity, such as is it correct? Is it accurate? Is the source reliable? Has the
information any bias? This is the most important before the is passed on to third parties.

No, because all of them have their various roles. Media literacy requires
determining the bias of the source, maybe it comes from the blog, an article from a
source such as newspaper or magazine. However, technology literacy requires an
understanding how things work.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

1. In your opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and information?

In my own opinion, an individual is literate in media and information when he/she

has the ability to determine, manifest and to understand how the media and information
works.

2. What activities/ habits do you practice which illustrate media and information literacy?
Give at least three examples.

In this pandemic time, generally, the students are relying on the media and
information. First, it provides an easiest way to communicate and learn especially if you
have an online class. It serves as the means of teaching of the teachers to effectively
teach the students.

3. In your own words define media literacy, information literacy and technology literacy.

Media literacy is the modes of how you’ll send something through by, digital or
traditional. However, Information literacy is the content of information that will serve as
the inner focus. Lastly, Technology literacy is tools that will carry the information you
want to deliver.

ASSESSMENT
.

Instruction: Analyze and explain the illustration. Established the connections between media
literacy, information literacy and digital literacy.

The illustration shows the cycle of how the media, information and technology is
beneficial to us. At first, the media is sharing information to us. Whether it could be through
digital or traditional way of sharing information. Then, we will be receiving the information that
once was shared to us. Moreover, after receiving the said information, we tend to develop
curiosity and will dig deeper. We will be looking for more information we could gain, and that,
basically will make us look for information through media.
