about Chauhan’s alleged invol-
vement in protecting a leading
resort in a tax evasion case for
which the Lokayukta recom-
mended his removal.
The MHA’s directive to the
Delhi government came nearly
two months after the Lokayuk-
ta Justice Manmohan Sarin in-
dicted the senior minister, rec-
ommending to President
Pratibha Patil to remove him as
he “misused” his official posi-
tion.
While the decision about
Chauhan's fate lies with the
President, who has three
months to decide on the issue,
highly placed sources in the
city government said a detailed
report on the issue would be
sent to the home ministry with-
in a couple of days.
The communication from
the MHA, officials said, is part
of the decision making process
by the President, which is ex-
pected to be completed by the
end of May.
Justice Sarin’s order in late
February had come in a case
pertaining to Chauhan's al-
leged involvement in influen-
cing a team of tax officials
when they were carrying out a
survey at the premises of Tivoli
Garden resort in south Delhi in
February last year.
The opposition BJP has
been pressing for Chauhan's re-
moval since issuance of the or-
der by the Lokayukta and had
even targeted chief minister
Sheila Dikshit for not sacking
him.
Chauhan, who represents

uency in outer Delhi, is consid-
ered close to Dikshit and was

to do away with giving
weightage to class X scores
under the new admission
guidelines. Till last year the
college, being a minority in-
stitution and following its
own admission policy, used
to give weightage to class X
and XII scores, followed by
an interview. Otherwise,
the college is going to con-
tinue with most of the re-
forms introduced last year,
including that of keeping the
merit differential between
any reserved and general cat-
egory at a maximum of 15%.

nificant change is that we are
not going to take into account
the performance of the candi-
date in his/ her class X
boards. One of the reasons is
that gradually the class X
boards is becoming optional
and they will be getting only

So we are keeping it simple.”

the maximum temperature
touching 40.6 degrees Celsius,
3 degrees above normal. It
was, however, a little below
