Description
Fire Fighting Systems 4-Way deck head is primarily used for
hose connections for various duties. The deck head is designed
as a manifold of heavy duty type, pressure tested before
delivery to to suit requirements for fire-fighter classification
notation. The deck head is supplied with Storz-C hose
connections with chain and cap as standard. Other connections
are available on request. It can be used in all positions, vertical
or horizontal. Each connection is equipped with pressure
reducer for independent pressure to each hose.

Installation, Operation and Maintenance
Instructions
FFS DH-80 – 4-way Deck head Mk.2
1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This document is made to describe the operation and maintenance of the FFS DH-80 4-way
deck head/hose manifold FFS AS.
Material for main castings is copper alloy. Stainless steel and composites are used for
smaller components. The units offer compact installation requirements and flexibility of
location and hose connection.
2 INSTALLATION
2.1 Piping
Pressure testing when mounted in piping system - If the piping system is pressure
tested, the unit may be isolated to avoid damage. This is important to remember if the
test pressure is above the working pressure of the unit. If in doubt – consult FFS.
Before any pressure testing, manifold and valves must be properly vented. In general,
the units are pressure tested to 1,1x nominal pressure class PN16 - 17,6bar.

The units come with two different size orifices, stacked between gaskets, located
between the hydrant valve outlet and the hose coupling. If version without hose
coupling is delivered, the orifices and gaskets are tied to the valve. The common
hose nozzles in marine external fire fighting systems are either 12mm or 16mm
nominal outlet.
If 12mm hose nozzles are used, no dismantling is needed. If 16mm nozzles are used,
unscrew the coupling from the valve and remove the outer, smallest orifice and outer
gasket at each outlet.
Recommended to mark and keep the removed orifices and gaskets.
Fig 1 – Exploded view of orifices between valve and hose coupling, shown on two
of the valves/couplings. Remove outer orifice and outer gasket if using 16mm hose
nozzles.

4 OPERATION
Refer to FFS summarised instructions for marine external fire fighting system (FFS
doc. nos. FFS-217/FFS218/FFS-219).
If independent system other than above, carefully fill the piping at low pump speed
or by throttled valve(s), then increase to desired pressure and flow when hoses are
controlled or tied down and discharging water or foam solution. Also, the pump
should be protected from overheating at low delivery rate by an overboard line or
proper circulation/bleed off dimensioned to take the actual pump’s minimum
continuous thermal flow rate or higher. If intended duration for running the unit is
>1hr it is recommended to dimension to minimum continuous stable flow rate.
Recommended to shut down in reverse procedure as above, by gentle change in
flow.
After shutdown, drain the unit by supply piping and lowest point hydrant valve.
5 MAINTENANCE
5.2 Cleaning
In order to observe the state of the unit best possible, its exterior should be kept clean
of dust, oil and other debris.
It is recommended not to clean the unit with high pressure washer. Use freshwater
and mild solvent (industrial degreaser/white spirit) if applicable.
