LAB NO2

TO FIND UNKNOWN BRANCH CURRENT IN A CIRCUIT CONTAINING

DEPENDENT SOURCE

OBJECTIVE:
 The main objective of this lab is to address the use of dependent source and to find out
unknown branch currents using that source.

BACKGROUND
We are using current source (CCCS) for this lab. We are now converting tocontrolled

The magnitude of the current source is k times the current through resistor R1, where k can be
greater or less than 1. First let us concentrate on the controlled source. CCCS are called up under
the ANALOG library as F. Pay very much attention to the direction of the current in each part of
the symbol. In particular, note that the sensing current of F has the same direction as the defining
controlling current as shown in figure. We will double-click on the CCCS symbol, the Property
Editor dialog box appears with the set at 1. In this lab circuit diagram, the gain must be set at 0.7,
so click on the region below the GAIN label and enter 0.7. Then select Display followed by
Name and Value-OK. Exit the Property Editor, and GAIN 0.7 appears with the CCCS . The other
new component in this schematic is IPRINT; it can be found in the SPECIAL library. It is used
to tell the program to list the current in the branch of interest in the output file.

PROCEDURE STEPS
 To find the Property Editor dialog box double-clicking on the IPRINT component tis is
same as that of VPRINT.
 First enter OK beneath AC and follow with Display-Name and Value-OK. Repeat the
following steps for MAG and PHASE, and then select Apply before leaving the dialog
box.
 Clicking on the Property Editor dialog box is to “apply” the changes made to the network
under investigation.
 When we exit the Property Editor, the three chosen parameters appear on the schematic
with the OK directive. You may find that the labels will appear all over the IPRINT
symbol.
 Mirror vertically the voltage source V2
 The Property Editor for each source and set the level of AC, FREQ, VAMPL, and VOFF
and be sure that the PHASE is set on 0
 In the Simulation Settings dialog box, select AC Sweep/Noise with a Start and End
Frequency of 1 kHz. There will be 1 Point.
 Click OK, and select the RunSpice.
 Select View Output File.

LAB TASK
Using procedure steps mention above design the given circuit diagram in PSPICE to
show branch current I2.
