1) INT. CARGO PLANE. NIGHT.

The scene begins with a shot of a cargo plane flying over the ocean below, but it
beginning to cross over an icy landmass. The shot then goes to the inside where we see all
of our returnees strapped into cargo seats in the back of the plane. It is reminiscent of 4.12
when the O6 returned to civilization. The camera pans onto each person. Jack, Kate holding
Aaron, Sun, Hurley, Sayid, Walt, Christine, Ben, Desmond, Penny and finally Charles
Widmore (who appears to be sleeping or sedated). They all have a look of unease on their
face as the plane begins to descend. Jack screams over to Penny because the plane is very
loud:

Jack:

How did you manage to secure this place?!

Penny:

I had people posted down here looking for Desmond's sailboat when he went missing!

Desmond:

She tricked me by having her uncle's wife give me a boat with a tracking device on it!

Kate:

Good work, Penny!

 Sayid:

So, the men you have stationed down there, they're still there?!

Penny:

The one is, the other went missing!

Penny looks at her father after she says this. The camera shows Charles then back to
Penny. The flash sound begins.

2) --FLASH-- EXT. PARK IN LONDON. SAME PLACE CHARLES MET WITH NAOMI IN 5.1. DAY.

Penny is walking toward a man who is sitting on a bench in the park. He is sitting in the
same spot Naomi was sitting when Charles met her in 5.1. Penny walks up to him (very
reminiscent of the scene in 5.1). Penny sits down next to him.

Penny:

Hello, Mathias.

Mathias:

(with a Portuguese accent) Hello, Ms. Widmore.

Penny:

That was excellent work finding Desmond... Thank you again.

Mathias takes an envelope that Penny handed him. He opens it and there is a large
amount of British currency inside. He closes the envelope and puts it on the inside of his
coat. He looks at Penny very seriously.

Mathias:

Ms. Widmore, I don't want to alarm you, but I think I've been followed since I arrived in
London.

Penny:

No doubt my father. He's probably watching me. Go back to Manchester to your fiance. I'll
take care of my father.

Mathias and Penny get up and Penny shakes his hand. The scene cuts to:

3) --FLASH CONT-- INT. PARKING GARAGE. LONDON. DAY.

Mathias is walking to his car in a parking garage as a group of men come out of nowhere
and overpower him and blindfold him. They take him to a Limo where Charles Widmore gets
out and notices a man on the level above. The camera shows the spy and it is Tom! Tom is
videotaping the kidnapping of Mathias. Widmore gets into the Limo after Mathias is shoved
in. Widmore removes the blindfold and Mathias looks at him in fear.
 Charles:

You broke the deal.

Mathias:

She came to me, she begged!

Charles:

Thanks to you, I have to worry about my daughter finding the island. That is not how this
was supposed to work. Did I not give you enough money to betray Linus?

Mathias:

I just...

Charles:

Don't answer that. You located the island, but not the precise location. I should kill you, but
I'm going to use you as an incentive.

Mathias:

Incentive?

Charles:

Naomi. She can fly a helicopter and now that I have you she has an interest at stake.

Mathias:

If you hurt her, I will kill you!

Charles:

No-one's going to get hurt... not if they can follow orders. First, tell me something... the
electromagnetic anomaly you detected... from when you worked on the island for Linus, can
you tell if it is was from the island? Was it as big as the incident in '79 or was it much
smaller... from say, a man made device?

Mathias:

I don't understand.

Charles is losing patience and he takes Mathias by the throat and speaks clearly and
directly to him.

Charles:

How big was the anomaly?!

Mathias:
 I.. I.. think there was a discharge from the Swan.

Charles:

So, Abaddon's man on the plane didn't have time to activate the device?

Mathias:

Device? No... this was pretty big. What device?

Charles backhands Mathias with his fist and Mathias passes out. This is a side of Charles
we have yet to see. Charles picks up his phone and dials. Someone answers.

Charles:

The device wasn't used. It appears fate stepped in and delivered the plane to the island on
its own. It's in enemy hands now.

The camera shows who Widmore is talking to. It is Mr. Paik!

Mr. Paik:

We'll have to build a new one.

The camera pans to a picture Paik is holding of the suitcase device that Bernard put on
815. The the camera focuses on the beginnings of the large device that Sun confronted Mr.
Paik with in the warehouse in 5.3.

Mr. Paik:

We won't have time to make it as small as the first... not without the help of Mittelwerk.

The camera shows Widmore again.

Charles:

Get it started.

The camera pans back to the beginning of the large device in Paik's warehouse as the
flash sound begins.

4) --END OF FLASH-- INT. CARGO PLANE. NIGHT.

The camera is now focused on the finished device sitting in the back of the cargo plane
along with the other survivors. The camera shows Hurley looking at the numbers on the
device. He directs his attention back to Desmond.

Hurley:

Question! How the hell did you find this guy to fly us here?!

Desmond:

He likes conspiracies!
 The camera shows the front of the cargo cabin towards the cockpit and the pilot pokes
his head backwards out the door. It is Frank Lapidus!

Frank:

Loves! I love them! Strap yourselves in, this is gonna be a rough landing!

The camera shows the outside of the plane as it begins to descend onto an icy runway
below as it hits some serious turbulence. The music builds and....

LOST
8:30 w/ comms and previously

5) INT. CARGO PLANE. ANTARCTICA. NIGHT.

The plane is stopped and the cargo doors open. Everyone walks off into the cold wind
wearing their Arctic gear. All, except for Charles Widmore, who is still passed out and Frank
who stays in the cockpit. The camera cuts to them entering the Listening Station. Penny
walks in first and rushes up to Henrik, one of the men from the Listening Station in 2.23,
and gives him a big hug. Desmond is shown and he doesn't seem too happy about it. Sayid
notices.

Sayid:

Who's he?

Desmond:

That's Henrik... Penny's ex-fiance.

Sayid:

The one after you disappeared?

Desmond:

Ay.

Off to the side, Penny speaks with Henrik.

Penny:

Henrik, thank you so much for helping us out.

Henrik:

Anything for you, Pen.

Penny:

I know this must be hard for you, with Des being here and all.
 Henrik:

No, it's fine. I understand. What I don't understand is why you need to fly over The Queen
Maud Mountains.

Penny:

Don't worry about that, the less you know the safer you are.

Henrik looks down, underwhelmed by the answer.

Penny:

We have to get going soon though, could you fill the plane for us?

Henrik nods and he puts on his coat and grabs the needed supplies. He head out the
door. Penny walks over to Desmond, who appears to be unhappy.

Penny:

Des, you have nothing to worry about, believe me.

Desmond:

I know... it's just strange...

Penny:

He left me because he saw how obsessed I was with finding you, he knew we were meant
for each other before I realized it myself.

Penny kisses Desmond passionately.

Penny:

I love you Des, only you.

Desmond smiles back to Penny. Jack is checking out the station and the he turns around
and looks at a map on the wall. He turns to Ben.

Jack:

Where, on here, do we have to fly over?

Ben:

A little over 400 miles south of here.

Ben points to a remote place in the middle of Antarctica.

Sun:

And that will put us over the exact spot of the island in the Northern Hemisphere?
 Ben:

Yes.

Kate hears this and she turns away from the group. Jack sees it and pulls her aside.

Jack:

I know this isn't what you wanted to do...

Kate:

Yeah, I'd say not. What the hell am I doing here?... with Aaron!

Jack:

You're doing this for him, Kate.

Kate:

Would you drop it, Jack?!

Jack:

I'm not jealous anymore. I lost my chance and I know it.

Kate:

Why the sudden 180, Jack? Does it have anything to do with her?

Kate points to Christine and starts to lose her temper.

Kate:

Did you sleep with her or something... on your trip to New York to get Walt?

Jack looks at Kate like "wtf?"

Kate:

I saw you with her on the porch last week.

Jack:

I was comforting her...

Kate:

Oh.. she needs comforting does she?!... I'm the one having to drag a 3 year old to the
Antarctic and back to that... hell.

Jack:
Zach and Emma... the kids on the island. They're hers.... She wants to go with us, but I told
her she can't.

Kate looks down then back at Christine who obviously overheard the conversation. Kate
turns back to Jack.

Kate:

I'm sorry... this is all just... I can't believe I agreed to go back.

Jack hugs Kate.

Jack:

I know... I know... look at me.

Jack takes Kate's head in his hands and looks her square in the eyes.

Jack:

We're going to get them and find a way back here... you understand?

Kate nods.

6) EXT. JUNGLE. DAY.

Rose and Juliet are walking in the jungle towards the Arrow. There is, what appears to be
steam, rising from some spots on the ground where the two are walking. Rose stops and
sits down on a log to rest. She looks very upset.

Juliet:

Don't worry, Rose, we'll find him.

Rose nods and then looks up and around. She looks at the steam rising. She looks back
to Juliet.

Rose:

Is it just me, or is it a lot warmer all of a sudden?

Juliet:

Yeah, I think when Bernard released the pressure under the island the heat from the
volcano is rising.

Rose:

Well, you said what he did was a bad thing... he made it a little warmer.

Juliet:

For now... but Rose, the heat means there's a magma flow...
 Rose looks puzzled.

Juliet:

Wherever the island moved... must be on some kind of fault. This volcano hasn't been
active in hundreds of years.

Rose begins to look worried again. Juliet notices and helps Rose up.

Juliet:

Come on, we have to get back to figure out what we do next.

The two are walking and suddenly they see him. Bernard is laying on the ground with
blood all around his head. Rose runs over to his side and bends down next to him. Juliet
follows.

Rose:

Bernard! Oh my, Bernard!

Bernard begins to speak, but his voice is raspy and not very clear.

Bernard:

Rosy... I love you.

Rose:

Shut up Bernard! Don't you talk like that!

Bernard:

I have to warn Locke...

Juliet:

Warn Locke about what?

Bernard:

The visitor.... there will be a visitor.

Rose:

Stop talking, Bernard. We need to get you help. Juliet!

Juliet and Rose begin to move Bernard, but as they do he screams in pain. Juliet notices
a rock that is lodged in the back of his head. She stands up realizing it is hopeless. Juliet
looks over and notices the suitcase next to Bernard. It has a red cross on the black canvas.
Juliet tilts her head and looks at the suitcase closer as the flash sound begins...

7) --FLASH-- INT. HYDRA STATION. OUTSIDE ROOM 23. DAY.

 Juliet is looking at a chart on the outside of the door marked 23. She puts the chart back
on the door and the camera shows it is for Cindy Chandler and Juliet wrote the date next to
the "Patient Check" as 11/9/04. Just then Ben comes up from behind Juliet and he has an
envelope in his hand. He hands it to Juliet.

Juliet:

What's this?

Ben:

Special delivery from Richard.

Juliet looks down at the envelope, but Ben puts his hand over it.

Ben:

First, tell me what she said to you in there.

Juliet:

When I asked her if the device was on the plane she said yes. She said she helped one of
the passengers get it on board...

Ben:

Excellent. I'm going to put together a team to locate it.

Juliet:

She said it's black with a red cross on the side... but Ben, what is it?

Ben:

It's a... portal to the island from the outside world. I think it was on the plane because
these people who crashed were set up to be here. However, Tom said that it was the
discharge that brought them down, not the device.

Juliet:

Why do you want it?

Ben:

Dharma started the development of it for easy access on and off the island, but they never
got it right. If it wasn't destroyed in the crash... it could be very useful to us.

Juliet:

How does it work?

Ben:
 A negative electric Holmium charge and if it is used at the precise area with the correct
settings people could.... forget it. It's very complicated.

Juliet looks down at the envelope.

Ben:

Go ahead, aren't you curious as to what it is?

Juliet nods and opens the envelope. She is looking through the documents and her eyes
get big.

Juliet:

How did you get this?

Ben:

Richard knows people.

Juliet:

This is the information of the sperm donor for Rachel's son. Why are you showing me this?

Ben:

I think you will find it very interesting who the father of your nephew is, Juliet.

Juliet looks down at the paper.

Ben:

His names on the last page.

Juliet flips to the last page. The camera shows her face and she looks amazingly shocked.

Juliet:

How do I know this isn't a trick... to get me to cooperate?!

Ben:

I assure you, I was just as surprised as you are... so you see why it's in your best interest
to help, Juliet.

Ben turns and is walking down the hall when his walkie goes off. Tom is on the other
end.

Ben:

Yeah, Tom?

Tom:
 It's Goodwin. We found him.

Ben:

And?

Tom:

He's dead.

Ben:

Good.

Juliet is still looking at the paper. In awe. She looks back up at Ben as he is walking out
the doors of the Hydra as the flash sound begins....

8) --END OF FLASH-- JUNGLE. DAY.

Rose:

Juliet!... Juliet!

Juliet snaps out of it and looks at Rose.

Juliet:

Rose, we can't move him.

Rose:

What do you mean?!

Juliet:

If we do, the rock will dislodge and he'll lose too much blood.

Rose:

What, you want to leave him here?!

Rose doesn't listen to Juliet's advice and she takes Bernard in her arms and lifts him up.
The rock becomes dislodged and Bernard groans in pain. There is blood gushing out of him
now. Rose looks shocked and she doesn't know what to do. She starts trying to catch the
blood and putting her hand on the back of his head. She is shocked and her face shows it.

Bernard:

It's ok, Rose. I completed my mission.

Rose:

No! Bernard, don't you leave me! Bernard!

 Bernard starts to look very tired and his eyes are rolling back in his head. He musters
enough strength to say to Rose:

Bernard:

I've spent every minute of the rest of my life with you Rose...

Rose:

Bernard, I love you so much.

Bernard:

... don't worry... you'll be along soon enough, my dear.

Rose bends down and kisses Bernard on the lips. He kisses back, but then he goes limp.
Rose backs away and Bernard is staring off, but has a slight smile on his face. Rose hugs
him close.

Rose:

I'll be with you soon... I'll be with you soon.

The camera pans to Juliet who has a tear in her eye. She looks down and sees the device
next to Bernard. Just then Locke comes out of the bushes. He looks down and sees Bernard
dead.

Locke:

Damn.

9) EXT. JUNGLE. DAY.

Charlotte and Miles are walking through the jungle. Miles still has his gun pointed at
Charlotte as they are walking. Charlotte has her mother's file in her hand as they reach the
outside of the Staff Station.

Charlotte:

Miles, you haven't made any sense since we left the Arrow.

Miles:

You'll understand soon enough.

Charlotte stops and she turns to Miles. He raises the gun straight at her.

Charlotte:
 Go ahead, Miles, pull it. You're going to kill me anyway aren't you?!... I mean, that's what
Cindy said... she said both my mother and I have to die for things to happen the way
they're supposed to... so do it!!!

Miles:

I'm sorry, Charlotte... I really am, but maybe you don't have to.

Charlotte:

What then, just my mother?!

Charlotte pretends to turn around towards the station, but instead she drops to the
ground and kicks Miles' legs out from under him. Miles falls to the ground and the gun is
thrown a few feet away. The two of them struggle against each-other to reach the gun.
Charlotte manages to get her hand on it, but before she grabs it Miles elbows her in the
head. He grabs the gun and stands up above her.

Miles:

Don't make this any harder than it has to be, babe.

Charlotte just looks up at him with hate in her eyes.

Miles:

Now get up and take me to her.

Charlotte gets up and walks into the station. Miles follows.

10) INT. STAFF STATION. DAY.

Charlotte walks into the secret operating room where Jin is still laying on the cot and
Annie is laying on the table. Sawyer is sitting in a chair and leaning against the wall asleep.
Miles follows.

Miles:

What the hell are they doing here?!

Charlotte:

You didn't ask me if she was alone.

Miles:

Damn it!

Miles raises the gun towards Charlotte and looks really pissed off and he is biting his
lower lip. Sawyer wakes up at them talking.

Sawyer:

Well, if it ain't the King of Siam, how the hell are you alive?!
 Miles:

The monster liked me... get his gun.

Miles says this to Charlotte and Sawyer realizes that Miles has a gun to her. Charlotte
grabs Sawyer's gun and points it at Miles. Miles retaliates by pointing his gun at Annie.

Miles:

Give me the gun or mama is dead.

Charlotte reluctantly throws the gun towards Miles. Sawyer stands up agitated.

Sawyer:

Just what the hell is this?

Miles:

An inconvenience.... Sit down in the corner!

Miles points his gun at Sawyer and Charlotte. They listen and sit down in the corner.
Sawyer whispers to Charlotte:

Sawyer:

What the hell crawled up his ass?

Charlotte shrugs and shows Sawyer her mother's file. He opens it to the picture of Annie
levitating a bicycle upside down.

Sawyer:

Well, I'll be a son of a bitch. Lilith was right... your moms a genuine David Copperfield.

Charlotte:

Where is she, Harper?

Sawyer:

She went to find out what that quakin' was all about.

Miles gets more agitated and is sweating profusely.

Miles:

Shut up! Just all of you shut up!

Miles says this, but it isn't directed at Sawyer or Charlotte. He says it as he is looking
around the room like someone else, or many other people are talking to him.

Sawyer:
 He lost it... where's the shrink when ya need her?

11) EXT. JUNGLE. DAY.

Harper is walking along and she manages to run into Locke, Juliet and Rose on her way
back to the arrow. She looks down and sees that Bernard is dead. She looks back up to
Juliet.

Harper:

What happened?!

Juliet:

He fell out of the tree... he was looking for this.

Juliet points to the suitcase device.

Juliet:

Look familiar?

Harper:

Uh, no...

Juliet:

It's what Ben was agonizing about... the device.

Locke:

The device?

Juliet:

Yeah, it's supposed to be a means of getting off the island...

Locke:

How?

Juliet:

He didn't exactly explain the quantum mechanics to me John...

Rose:

All of you, please! He's gone... have some respect!

The four of them look at Bernard.

Locke:
 We should have a burial for him.

Harper:

The beach, where he crashed... it's just over there.

Rose:

He would like that...

Juliet:

I'll go back to the Arrow and round up everyone.

Juliet pulls Locke aside.

Juliet:

If what Ben said is true, we could get off this island.

Locke:

I don't think so.

Juliet:

What? John, things are about to get really bad...

Locke looks at Juliet with a puzzled face.

Juliet:

Haven't you noticed how much warmer it is... how much warmer the ground is?

Locke:

No, I didn't notice.

Juliet:

Bernard released the pressure of the magma fields under the island... it's only a matter of
time now, John.

Locke:

I was told there will be a visitor. Until he comes, we don't do anything.... have the
memorial.

Juliet rolls her eyes and she grabs the suitcase and begins to walk off toward the Arrow.
John stops her.

Locke:
 That stays with me, Juliet.

Juliet makes a disapproving face at Locke and sits the device down. She walks off. Locke
stands there looking down at Bernard and he notices Harper looking at the suitcase device.

Locke:

Tell me, Harper... why are you so interested in this... machine?

Harper doesn't say anything. She just stands there looking at the device as the flash
sound comes up....

12) --FLASH-- INT. NUMBER STATION. UNDER ARROW. DAY.

Harper is standing in the middle of the huge white room under the Arrow. There
are about 20 subjects dressed all in white sitting around her at the tables working away
at the numbers. Another Dharma employee comes up beside her also dressed in a white lab
coat with the name Leary on it.

Harper:

Timothy, are we ready?

Timothy:

Yes, I believe we are.

Timothy hands Harper a gas mask and the two of them put the masks on. Timothy then
takes out a canister (the same as we saw in the picture Bernard found in 5.8 and the same
that was thrown at Danielle's group at the Black Rock in 5.6). He rips out the pin of the
canister and throws it into the middle of the room. The gas dissipates throughout the room.
Harper takes out a tape recorder.

Harper:

Pythia Experiment number 8. The gas was released at 4:45 p.m. on May 25th, 1988.

The camera focuses on Sam Toomey and Leonard Sims who are both sitting together at
one of the tables. Leonard begins working on his equation again, but Sam begins to draw
something. Harper takes note of this and she walks over to Sam looking over his shoulder.
Sam is drawing a stick figure of a man standing on a boat. Harper lets him finish as she
looks over at Leonard. She takes the paper from Sam, who is now done and walks over to
Dr. Leary.

Harper:

What do you think it means?

Timothy:

I don't know. He's the first to draw a picture...

Harper:
 So, you think the experiment's a success?

Timothy:

It's hard to say. The gasses are said to make the subjects into something of a prophet.

Harper:

I don't think this drawling hardly constitutes a premonition.

Timothy:

Only time will tell, now won't it?

Just then, an alarm sounds and Harper and Timothy look at each-other. Timothy stuffs
the drawling into his lab coat pocket and him and Harper begin to run for the ladder up to
the Arrow. Some of the other subjects in the room begin to get restless by the sound as
Harper punches in the code to open the hatch door at the top of the ladder. She does this
and begins to climb the ladder. Timothy follows, but not before Leonard grabs his legs and
pulls him off. Sam then rushes up the ladder and pushes Harper off as well. Leonard and
Sam climb the ladder as Harper follows them up. They get to the top and Leonard attempts
to seal the room off, but Harper pushes him out of the way and gets out. Sam comes from
behind Harper and hits her over the head with some kind of tank (like an oxygen tank) and
Harper is passed out. Leonard shuts the manhole cover over the room and seals it. Leonard
and Sam run out of the Arrow. The camera pans onto Harper who is passed out and the
flash sound begins....

13) ---END OF FLASH--- EXT. JUNGLE. DAY.

Harper comes out of her daze and looks back up at Locke.

Harper:

Nothing... I just wonder what it is...why Ben wanted it so bad...

Locke looks at Harper with much distrust. The camera pans back to Rose hugging onto
Bernard's body.

14) INT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTICA. NIGHT.

Christine is sitting alone on a chair by the door looking at a photo of her, Zach and Emma
again. Jack notices this. Ben walks over to Jack.

Ben:

Jack, I want you to take this.

Ben hands Jack a piece of paper.

Jack:

What is it?
 Ben:

The settings for the machine in the plane. I want you to take it in-case something happens
to me.

Jack:

Like what?

Ben:

I have to persuade Desmond to come along. We do need him.

Jack:

Damn it, Ben! Why the games?! Why now?! We're so damn close.

Ben:

Don't worry, it shouldn't be difficult.

Jack takes the paper and as he does this he sees Christine walk out the door into the
Arctic night. He looks at Ben, then walks out to Christine.

15) EXT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTICA. NIGHT.

Jack rushes out the door and sees Christine standing there.

Jack:

What the hell are you doing out here? It's below freezing.

Christine:

What's it matter?

Jack notices her lack of hope and walks over to her and hugs her.

Jack:

I promise you, I will find your children and bring them home to you.

Christine, with tears in her eyes, looks up at Jack and she pulls him in for a kiss. Jack
hesitates for a moment, but kisses her back.

Christine:

You better, or I swear Jack, I don't know what I'll do...

Henrik walks over from the plane towards Jack and Christine.

Henrik:

I hate to interrupt, but she's full and ready to go.

 Jack looks up at the plane and sees Frank giving him a "thumbs up."

Jack:

I guess this is it, come on, let's go in.

Jack, Henrik and Christine walk back into the station.

Henrik:

She's full. You should be ready to go.

Kate looks at Penny and hugs her.

Kate:

Thank you for all your help.

Penny:

Be careful!

Sun hugs Penny as Jack shakes Desmond's hand. Sun looks at Desmond, Penny and
Christine.

Sun:

You three... get home safe, ok?

Penny:

Henrik's a great pilot, he'll get us back just fine.

Hurley:

I can't believe I'm saying this, but let's go dudes!

Ben stands up from his chair and says:

Ben:

Not so fast, only two of you are staying...

Sayid pulls a gun and points it at Desmond.

Desmond:

What's all this, then brotha?

Ben:

You're coming along.

 Desmond:

I think you're mistaken...

Sayid points his gun at Penny.

Ben:

You see, if you don't come, she dies.

The music builds as Desmond looks at Sayid, who doesn't seem to like the situation any
more than the rest of the group, points the gun at Penny. The camera shows the rest of the
group who all look shocked and at Jack who looks really pissed off. The music continues to
build and the screen goes abruptly to black.

16) EXT. BEACH. NIGHT.

The combined "Genesis" group are all outside on the beach where the Tailies plane
crashed. Juliet is lighting torches around Bernard's body which is now covered with stones
and a makeshift cross is above the mound. The camera pans to the faces of Amelia, Zach,
Emma, Redshirt Tom, Harper, Redshirt Reuben, Redshirt John, Juliet, Richard then Locke.
Rose walks up behind all of them with tears in her eyes. Juliet steps up to Bernard's grave.

Juliet:

I didn't have much time to get to know Bernard personally, but I had an extensive file on
him from when you first crashed on this island.

The camera shows Locke who looks off to the side and then Rose who is watching Juliet
intently.

Juliet:

Some of the things in the file surprised me, but what didn't surprise me was how devoted
he was to his wife, Rose. Bernard would have walked to the end of the Earth for her... and
in a way, he did.

Rose, sitting on a log, tears up and looks down as Vincent walks up to her as if to console
her.

Juliet:

From what I read, but more so, from what I saw in him... in his eyes... Bernard was a good
man. Pure in heart and pure in mind... Bernard was truly one of the good guys.

Juliet bends down and picks up a stone and puts it on the top of Bernard's grave. She
steps aside and Locke walks up to say something.

Locke:
 Bernard was a leader... a leader in a humble man's body. But when the time came to step
forward, Bernard did just that... without hesitating. Every one of us, here on this island, has
a purpose. We may not know what that mission is and perhaps we don't even know we are
doing what we are meant to do... Bernard was no different. Bernard gave us all comfort, but
more importantly, he reminded us what is truly important... and that is love... and hope.

Locke steps aside, puts a rock on Bernard's grave and walks to the side where he takes
the paper out of his pocket that he got from the scientist's pocket in the Number station.
The paper shows a drawling of a man on boat with a series of lines shooting up from the
mans head. It is Sam Toomey's 'prophesy' from the Pythia Experiment. Beside the stick
man is a rectangle that has a colored in cross in the center of it. The rectangle is obviously
the suitcase machine. Harper looks over at John who is looking at the drawling. She then
glances at Richard who is also looking at John.

17) INT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTIC. NIGHT.

The group all stands around and they're all looking at Sayid who has his gun pointed at
Penny.

Jack:

Come on Sayid, you don't want to do this...

Ben:

He knows what has to be done and he is willing to do it. All of you should be willing to do it.

Kate:

I thought you said Desmond doesn't have to go.

Ben:

I lied.

Hurley:

I knew it, you can't trust this guy!

Desmond:

Why do I have to go... why me?!

Ben:

Really, Desmond, it's your fault. If you wouldn't have used the fail-safe key... we wouldn't
be here right now.

Jack:

Ben, what the hell are you talking about?!

Ben:
The island became unstable when Desmond turned the key. Up until then, everything Jacob
needed to happen was still going as planned.

Sun:

I'm sick of this Jacob talk!

Ben:

Why do you think you're here, right now Sun?... because Jacob needs you to go back. He
needs all of us who were on that island right before that key was turned to pick up from
where we left off.

Jack:

Including Locke... even though hes in the back of the plane, dead?!

Ben:

Especially Locke.... so what do you say Des, you coming? If you stay, she's dead...

Penny:

Don't do it Des, he's not serious...

Ben grabs the gun from Sayid, turns and shoots Henrik in the chest.

Penny:

No! Henrik!!!

Jack hurries over to Henrik and applies pressure on the wound as Penny starts to scream
and cry and the others all back off with shock in their expressions.

Ben:

Now you don't have a ride out of here... looks like you don't have a choice, now do you?

18) INT. STAFF STATION. NIGHT.

Miles is standing with the gun still pointed at Charlotte and Sawyer. He looks like he is
going absolutely insane. He keeps looking around and he says:

Miles:

Be quiet, I will do it, just stop! Just shut up!

Sawyer looks at Charlotte and makes a motion as if he is going to attack Miles and get
the gun. As Miles is going nuts Sawyer jumps into action and rushes Miles. Just as Sawyer is
about to reach Miles, Miles turns and points the gun directly at Sawyer's head. Miles points
the gun slightly away and fires. Sawyer stops dead in his tracks.

Miles:
 I told you to stay in the corner, you hick! Why can't you listen?!

Sawyer slinks back into the corner with Charlotte. The noise from the gun must have
done something to wake Annie who is now moving around on the OR table. Miles looks at
her then back at the two in the corner.

Charlotte:

Miles, you said that maybe I don't have to die right?

Miles:

Maybe, but I don't know... It wasn't clear.

Charlotte:

Well, maybe no one has to die. Maybe we can work this out.

Miles:

You didn't see what I saw, Charlotte. You weren't there when it happens. I don't think you
understand, if I let her live... we all die.

Sawyer:

How, how do we all die?

Miles:

They let it happen, they want it to happen... Ben was right. We can't let Widmore come
here. If he does... and he finds her...

The camera shows Annie as Miles says "her." Miles' demeanor becomes very dazed and
he doesn't seem to be completely with it.

Miles:

... it's over. There will be no stopping it from happening.

Charlotte:

Miles, you're talking in circles... what's going to happen if Widmore gets to my mother?!

Miles:

The man with all the tubes coming out of him... he'll let it happen...

Sawyer:

What man!? What the hells gonna happen?!

Miles:
 The end, the end will happen.

Just then as Miles is saying this, Annie sits up on the table and catches Miles off guard,
he turns and without thinking he fires his gun at her. Charlotte and Sawyer jump as the
BANG is heard. The camera shows Miles, who has a look of shock on his face then it shows
Charlotte and Sawyer who are both looking at the same thing Miles is looking at. Annie has
raised her hand and the bullet is stuck in mid-air! Annie falls back onto the table and as she
does this the bullet drops to the floor. The music builds and Charlotte stares at her mother
and then at Miles. Out of nowhere, Jin attacks Miles and Miles falls to the floor with Jin on
top of him. The camera focuses on Annie as the flash sound begins...

19) --FLASH-- INT. JFK AIRPORT. DAY.

Annie is walking through the terminal as she is on her cell phone. As she is walking there
is an electronic clock above the terminal walkway that reads " 17, July 1996." It flickers as
she walks under it.

Annie:

Yes, the plane should be arriving in Paris late tonight and I will be getting a connecting flight
to Heathrow.... uh huh... yes, I love you too. Tell the girls I will see them in the morning.
Oh, it's TWA Flight 800. Bye P.W. I love you.

Annie continues towards her gate when a man steps in front of her. It is Tom!

Tom:

Mrs. Lewis?

Annie:

Yes?

Tom:

I need to speak with you for a moment... it's about Dharma...

Annie's eyes get large and she looks around. Tom takes her by the arm and she walks
with him to a door marked "Employees Only" and they go in. Ben is standing there, waiting
for her.

Ben:

Annie... my God, you are even more beautiful than you were 20 years ago.

Annie looks confused as she looks at Ben.

Annie:

Ben? Ben Linus?

Ben:

One in the same.

 Annie:

I don't understand, what are you doing here? I heard the Initiative was destroyed.

Ben:

It is. I destroyed it.

Annie:

What, Ben... why... ?

Ben:

It had to be done.

Annie:

So, Charles was right... you did set him up all those years ago!

Ben:

Yes, but you have to understand, it was what had to be done.

Annie pulls away from Tom and begins to run towards the door back to the terminal. Tom
pulls out a gun and shoots Annie in the neck with a tranquilizer.

Ben:

Her flight is taken care of then?

Tom looks down as he says this and doesn't seem to pleased with the answer...

Tom:

Yeah.

The camera goes to Annie's POV and the camera goes fuzzy then to black.

20) --FLASH CON'T-- INT. ORCHID STATION. NIGHT.

Annie awakes to find herself in the Orchid Station strapped down to a chair. Ben is
wearing a Dharma Lab coat and there is another man in the room with them. It is Richard
Alpert.

Ben:

You are sure... positive... that she can do this?

Richard:

Yes, Ben... she can do this... the Pythia Experiments confirmed it.
 Ben:

I wouldn't call them a confirmation.....

Ben thinks for a second and reluctantly says:

Ben:

....all right then.

Ben looks down, not happy about what is about to happen. Annie wakes up.

Annie:

What is this?

Annie looks around and realizes where she is. Her eyes well up with tears. Harper walks
into the room.

Ben:

I'm sorry, Annie, but you are the only one who can help us.

Richard:

What you have to do, Jeanette, is use your mind to separate the positive charge from the
input of the Holmium's magnetic pull.

Richard says this to Annie as he flips a switch.

Richard:

This may be a little painful.

The switch is activated and a strong light is poured over Annie. The camera shows
another person standing in the white chamber that Ben put all the metal into in 4.13. It is
Mathias. Ben says, looking at Mathias:

Ben:

If this works, I want you to contact Mikhail as soon as possible.

Mathias:

And I am free, I can stay in Portugal?

Ben:

You are free, you are doing us and the island a great service.

Richard pushes a button and the door to the chamber closes.

Richard:
 Ready?

Ben:

Yes.

Ben looks at Annie as she looks back at him with tears streaming down her face. Richard
flips a switch and the doors to the room Annie is in close. The light over Annie intensifies
and another extremely bright light engulfs the chamber Mathias is in.

Harper:

You made sure you gave him the injection?

Richard nods and there is a syringe on the table with an orange substance in it.

Ben:

If this works, we have figured out what Pierre had done in this room for all those years.

There is a large metallic sound and it intensifies for about 10 seconds and then abruptly
stops. Ben and Harper un-shield their eyes from the light and look in the room at Annie who
is now passed out again. They then direct their attention to the chamber where Mathias is.
He is gone! Ben looks at Richard with wide eyes then picks up his walkie.

Ben:

Mikhail, any word from Mathias?

Ben:

You don't say?.... thank you Mikhail.

Ben turns to Richard and Harper with a grand expression on his face.

Ben:

Mathias contacted Mikhail 10 minutes ago.

Richard:

So, we are only slightly off.

Harper:

Barely anything to worry about!

Richard turns his chair and directs his attention to the corner of the room where there
sits a large machine... much like that on the cargo plane in Antarctica.

Richard:

With her help, we can come and go as we please... the Herarat project will be our greatest
success!
 Ben:

Right, but look at her Richard... how many times do you think this will work until it kills her?

The camera pans to Annie, who doesn't look so good.

Richard:

If I can figure out how to do what she does and put it in that machine... we won't need her
anymore.

Harper:

If you can put her ghost in the machine...

Richard glances at Harper.

Harper:

....so to speak.... Let's just hope we didn't open Pandora's Box...

Ben walks over to the window in the door to the room Annie is in and puts his hand on
the glass. He looks completely sincere as a tear builds up in his eye while he is looking at
Annie, who's nose is bleeding and she is soaked in sweat.

Ben:

I'm so sorry....

The camera focuses on Ben staring through the window at Annie as the flash sound
begins...

21) ---END OF FLASH--- INT. STAFF STATION. NIGHT.

The camera focuses on Annie then pans to Charlotte and Sawyer who are still looking at
her stunned. Jin is struggling with Miles who looks like he has given up and music builds...

Miles:

There's no stopping it!!

The music beings to build to it's peak and the camera goes black.

As those lyrics play out we see Rose walking up to Bernard's grave and her kneeling
down beside it. She touches the cross above his name and she takes her wedding ring off
and puts it around the stick on the top part of the cross.

And to take your hand, along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

As this verse plays out Rose stands up and walks through the sand and sits down on the
beach staring out over the ocean.

23) INT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTIC. NIGHT.

When sundown pales the sky,

I wanna hide a while, behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

As these lyrics play out we see Desmond tackle Ben and the gun is dropped. Sayid
quickly picks it up and aims it at the two of them on the ground. Everyone looks shocked.

24) INT. THE STAFF STATION. NIGHT.

Lyrics:

For me to love you now,

Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.
(some instrumental)

As this plays out we see Charlotte run to her mother and lift her body and hug it close.
Sawyer picks the gun up that Miles dropped and the camera pans to Jin, who is looking
healthier, holding Miles on the ground who has tears streaming down his face.

25) INT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTIC. NIGHT.

Lyrics:

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,

I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind.
 As this plays out we see Sayid point the gun and Hurley tries to stop him, but as he does
this the gun fires and the camera shows Penny holding her stomach and looking at Sayid in
shock. He looks back at her with huge eyes. The camera shows Sun grab Penny and help
her to the ground.

Lyrics:

For standin' in your heart,

Is where I want to be, and I long to be,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind

Penny's eyes are wide and she is grasping for breath. Kate holds Aaron close and
grabs Hurley's arm as the camera closes in on Desmond's expression as he looks back at
Sayid. Desmond rushes to Penny's side and he is crying looking back at Sayid again. Sayid's
eyes are huge and he has a look of sheer terror in his eyes.

26) EXT. BEACH. NIGHT.

Lyrics:

(pure instrumental)

As this plays out we see Rose looking off into the ocean. Something catches her attention
and she strains to see what it is. There is a spot light from it in the distance. Locke and
Richard take note and the others all walk towards the water's edge. It is revealed that it is a
small fishing boat. Juliet looks back to Locke who has the drawling of the stick figure on a
boat with a light coming from his head and the device beside him. He looks back up at the
boat. The camera is focused on Richard as he notices this. The music fades and the flash
sound begins...

27) INT. APARTMENT. LOS ANGELES. NIGHT.

Someone is packing up some things on a bed. He is folding a plaid shirt and puts it in the
suitcase. He zips the suitcase and places it next to another one sitting on the floor. The
suitcase on the floor is black canvas and has a red cross on it. It is the device. The camera
then pans up and it is revealed that it is Locke who is doing the packing. He picks up his
bags and begins to walk to the door of the loft, but when he looks up he sees someone
standing in the door. It is Richard!

Locke:

Richard?!... what are you doing here?

Richard:

Tying up some loose ends, John.

Locke:

How'd you get off the island?!

Richard:

Don't you worry about that... we have something more important to discuss.
 Locke drops his bags and invites Richard in and pulls out a chair for him. They both sit
down. Locke looks very intent on what Richard has to tell him.

Locke:

So, what is it then?

Richard:

John, remember when Boone Carlyle died?

Locke looks down and rubs his neck.

Locke:

Yes...

Richard:

What is it you said about his death?

Locke:

That it was necessary. It was a sacrifice the island demanded...

Richard:

And you believe that, don't you John?

Locke:

To tell you the truth.... I'm not so sure what I believe anymore, Richard.

Richard:

And that's why I'm here. John, the island is demanding another sacrifice.

Locke looks uneasy like he knows what Richard is about to say.

Richard:

That's right, it's demanding you John.

Locke looks at Richard with a weak voice and he looks shattered.

Locke:

I don't understand...

Richard:

You can never go back there John, if you do...

 Richard puts his head down.

Locke:

If I do, what... what Richard?

Richard looks at John with sincerity and puts his hand on Locke's knee.

Richard:

They'll all die... because of you...

Locke stands up and he doesn't like the sound of this. He paces back and forth and he
keeps rubbing his forehead and his neck.

Locke:

I've done everything I could... everything to try to please Jacob and the island... nothing I
did was good enough...

Richard:

You've done more than you know, John. This is just another plan of the island... in a chain
of things that must happen.

Locke:

What then... that's it?

Richard:

For you, I'm afraid so, John.

Locke stares at Richard for a moment then he walks over to the far wall where he gets a
rope. He ties a knot it in then throws it over a beam on the ceiling. Locke continues to stand
on a chair and tie the rope to the beam. He slips the noose around his neck and stands
there looking at Richard.

Richard:

You can't do this John, you aren't a man who commits suicide...

Locke:

Don't tell me what I can't do!

John puts a leg out as if to kick the chair out from under him. The music continues to
build and Locke begins to move his leg back towards the chair to kick it, but then he stops.
He stops and puts his leg back on top of the chair. He has tears streaming down his face.
Richard walks over to John standing on the chair.

Richard:

It's ok, John, I knew you couldn't do it.

 Locke:

I can't... I just can't do it...

Richard:

That's why I'm here, John.

With that, Richard kicks the chair out from underneath John and he drops. Locke pulls at
the rope around his neck and struggles for air, but he can't.

Richard:

Goodbye, John.

John, still struggling, can't help himself. Richard reaches into John's pocket and pulls out
a list. It is the list Claire gave him of the names of the people who must return to the island
in 5.8. Richard rips off the last name which is Kaname T. He puts the list back into Locke's
pocket and proceeds to pick up the suitcase device and walks towards the door. Richard
turns around and he looks at John, who slowly goes limp. Richard shuts off the light and
walks out the door. The camera shows Richard as he closes the door with Locke's body
hanging in the background as the flash sound begins...

28) EXT. BEACH. NIGHT.

The camera is still focused on Richard who is eyeing up the suitcase machine. Suddenly,
in the sky behind everyone on the beach there is a bright light. Everyone turns to look at it.
The light intensity builds and the camera focuses on the faces of Juliet, Locke, Harper,
Amelia and Rose.

29) INT. LISTENING STATION. NIGHT.

Desmond stares looking at Sayid as if he is going to kill him. He rushes towards Sayid
and Jack stops him.

Desmond:

You bloody bastard!! What did you do?!?

Sayid says nothing and just drops the gun. Hurley steps up and says:

Hurley:

Dude, it was an accident... he didn't mean to...

Desmond:

You killed her! You...

Desmond's anger turns to pure sadness as he looks back at Penny's body.

Desmond:
 You killed her...

The camera is focused on Desmond over-top of Penny as a sound is heard coming from
outside. Jack looks around.

Jack:

It's the plane!

They all run to the door and run out of the station. When the see it, they all stop except
for Sun who continues on running after the plane, which has just taken off.

Sun:

Stop!! Stop!!

She turns towards Jack and the others who are speechless.

Sun:

Someone! Stop it!!

30) INT. OFFICE. SOMEWHERE ELSE. DAY.

A man sits with his back to us in an office chair as the camera pans up to show Abaddon
sitting across from him.

Abaddon:

They are making their attempt as we speak...

He puts down a small piece of paper onto the desk.

Abaddon:

But, without this, they won't get very far.

The other man picks up the paper which is the tiny piece Richard ripped off of the list
that reads "Kaname T." The camera pans back up to who is looking at it and we see it is
Alvar Hanso who has many tubes coming out of him into machines around his desk (much
like we saw in 5.3 when Sun visited him) because of his illness. Tubes, like that Miles
referred to when he told Charlotte and Sawyer of their impending demise. Hanso doesn't
say anything. He just nods and Abaddon stands up. In his hand he is holding the suitcase
device.

Abaddon:

I'll be in touch.

31) EXT. RUNWAY. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTIC. NIGHT.

Jack turns around away from the others and collapses to the ground. He looks off in
thought for a second and he puts his hand in his pocket. He pulls it out and there is nothing
in it. He looks furious. Jack turns to Ben.
 Jack:

She has it! Christine has the settings for the machine! She took the damn plane!!!

32) INT. CARGO PLANE. NIGHT.

Christine has a gun to Frank's head as he is flying the plane.

Christine:

You know the exact location, right Frank?

Frank:

Yeah, yeah... I do... just point that away from me.

Christine:

Don't try anything funny Frank, I'm going to activate that machine so if we aren't in the
right place, who knows where we'll end up.

The camera cuts to Christine putting information into the machine. Behind her we see
Charles Widmore waking up out of his drug induced coma. He is looking at something across
the plane, but we don't see what it is.

Christine:

Got it!

Frank:

This is it... this is the place!!

Christine looks back towards the cockpit and as she does this she sees Walt in the back of
the plane. She closes her eyes and turns back to the machine and pulls a lever.

33) EXT. LISTENING STATION. ANTARCTIC. NIGHT

The others are all outside looking completely defeated as in the distance there is a bright
flash of light in the sky. They all turn in the direction of it. The camera shows Ben's face
who looks crushed.

Ben:

That's it... it's too late now.

33) EXT. BEACH. NIGHT.

Everyone on the beach is looking at the bright flash in the sky and suddenly it stops.
There is a plane in place of it, the cargo plane, and it is going down into the jungle. Locke
turns and looks out at the boat in the water then to Richard.

Richard:
 It has begun.

No music, no anything... it just goes to...
