I. What is most useful about mathematics about humankind (at least 100 words)

- The most useful thing about mathematics for humankind is it helps us to have better
problem solving skills, analytical thinking that have an ability to think critically about the
world around us and reasoning which we think logically about a situation. It is a
methodical presentation of matter and our world today would be lost without numbers.
Without numbers people cannot measure anything and could not read clock. We will use
math, whether we like it or not.

II. Show your solution completely

1. What is the 30th term of the Fibonacci number?

Solution:
Fn= 1 ❑√ 5 (1 +❑√ 5 /2)^ n – (1- ❑√ 5/2) ^ n
F(30)= 1/ ❑√ 5 ( 1 + ❑√ 5/2) ^ 30 – (1- ❑√ 5/2) ^ 30

F (30)= 832,040

2. In a Fibonacci sequence, f12=144 and f13=233. What is f20?

Solution:

Fn = 1❑√ 5 (1+ ❑√ 5/2) ^ n – (1-❑√ 5/2) ^ n

F(20) = 1/❑√ 5 (1+ ❑√ 5/2)^20 –(1-❑√ 5/2)^20
F(20) = 6,765

3. Determine the next number of the series: 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, ___.
Solution:

n3= 13 = 1 x 1 x 1 = 1
n3 = 23 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
n3 = 33 = 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
n3 = 43 = 4 x 4 x 4 = 64
n3 = 53 = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125
n3 = 63 = 6 x 6 x 6 = 216

4. An exponent is a small number written on the upper right of another number which is
called the base. It denotes the number of times the base to be multiplied by itself.
What is the value of -5 2?
Solution:
(-5 ^ 2 = -5 x 5)
= -25

10−2
5. Express the mathematical statement to an English sentence: =2
3
Answer:

6. Translate the following statement in symbols: “Twice the difference of 2 and 3,

diminished by 2
Answer:

Therefore, all dogs have kidneys.
8. If the population in the Philippines increases at the rate of one person every 15
seconds, by how many persons does the population have in 20 minutes?
Answer:
Since the population increases at the rate of 1 person every 15 seconds, it increases by
4 people every 60 seconds, that is, by 4 people every minute. Thus, in 20
minutes the population increases by 20 x 4 = 80 people

9. A teacher suggests that the minimum passing total score on the five quizzes is 135
