IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting new lesson:
 The countries in East Asia have been noted for their numerous similarities and commonalities in their
art production, artistic, traditions, and principles of arts as influenced by their history, beliefs, religion,
location, culture, and dynasty.
 Learning the arts and concepts of Japan, Korea and China will be helpful in making your tasks and
projects through varied activities provided for you enhance your skill and deepen your understanding
and appreciation about life arts of East Asia.

B. Establishing purpose of the lesson:

C. Presenting examples/ instance of the lesson:
- Painting is an expression of ideas and emotions, with the creation of certain aesthetic qualities, in
a two dimensional visual language- its shapes, lines, colors, tones, and textures- are used in
various ways to produce sensations of volume, space, movement, and light on a flat surface.
- These elements are combined into expressive patterns in order to represent real or supernatural
phenomena, to interpret a narrative theme, or to create wholly abstract visual relationships. An
artist decision to use particular medium, such as tempera, fresco, oil. Acrylic, watercolor, or other
water- based paints, ink, gouche, encaustic, or casein, as well as the choice of particular form,
such as mural, easel, panel, miniature, manuscript illumination, scroll, screen or fan, panorama,
or any of a variety of modern forms, is based on the expressive possibilities and limitations of
those options.
 Painting Analysis
 Use the following pictures to compare the paintings from Japan, Korea, and China. Identify the
similarities in terms of the subjects and elements of arts.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills:


- The term origami came from “ori” meaning “folding” and “kami” meaning “paper”. It is the
traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17 th century AD and was
popularized internationally in the mid- 1900’s. it eventually evolved into a modern art form.
- The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding
and sculpting technique without cutting as much as possible.
 The art of paper cutting
- Make an artwork out of colored or recycled paper and make your own design of your own design
of your paper cutting based on the subjects of Chinese painting or the 12 symbols of the Chinese
zodiac and Japanese paper folding. Observe the sample pictures below.
 Materials:
1. 2 red colored recycled papers 3. 1 folder
2. Cutter or pair of scissors 4. 1 or 2 white or light colored paper

E. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)


- Calligraphy the art of “beautiful handwriting” with pen or brush with the use of ink, paint, or
watercolor on paper, silk, or any similar material.
 Print me a message!
- Write your message for a friend in Chinese or Japanese calligraphy. Add your nickname at the
bottom of the page with the use small paint brush and watercolor. You may add borders similar to
the designs of Chinese paper arts. Below the sample Chinese and Japanese calligraphy.

F. Finding practical Application of concepts and skills in daily living:


 Print Me a Card
- Make your own card using wood block printing.
 Materials:
a. Styrofoam stray
b. Paint
c. Paint brush
d. Pen
e. Art paper
f. Scissors
 Guidelines
a. Use other improvise recycled materials as your woodblock if Styrofoam trays is not available.
b. Use Japanese themes and concepts for your design.
c. Follow the given steps.
 Procedure
a. Get the Styrofoam trays or woodblocks
b. Cut off the sides of your tray and discard. Cut the remaining rectangle into a variety of sizes.
c. Use the tip of a pen or barbeque stick to etch your design when you are ready.
d. Try to fill up your entire shape. Use different lines and even poke a few holes if you have the
space.
e. When your design is finished, paint over it with your color of acrylic paint or any coloring powder,
and a soft foam brush or cloth or rags.
f. Color the surface only and not the etched lines.
g. After you’ve covered the surface with color, turn your foam over and press firmly on your paper.
Gently smooth over the entire shape.
h. Pick the foam off of the paper carefully. You will see your print underneath.
i. Practice makes perfect. You may have some error prints but if you keep doing it, you will find the
right of paint to put on your foam. Choose your best printout.

G. Making Generalization:
 The region of East Asia encompasses modern China, Japan, and Korea. Given that these nations
share much culture materials, they can be referred to collectively as East Asian civilization
 Paper was first invented by Cai Lun of the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. It is indeed one of the
greatest contributions of ancient China in the development of arts.

in the mid- 1900’s. it eventually evolved into a modern art form.
