CHAINSAW OPERATIONS REGISTRATION

Level 1 - This course covers the safe use and maintenance of hand held chainsaws to the

Level 2 - This course covers the safe use and maintenance of hand held chainsaws for
cutting fallen timber and simple tree felling. 2011 Course Dates
Learners will receive competency based training in the safe use of chainsaws for cross- LEVEL 1
cutting timber and felling trees. Learners who complete the course will be able to use  30 - 31 Mar (Armidale)
a chainsaw in a safe and effective way to cross-cut, delimb and trim logs and felled  17 - 18 May (Inverell)
trees; and fell a range of trees classified as Level 2 trees. They will be able to recognise

situations where the use of a chainsaw is inappropriate and unsafe.

The course provides basic Level 2 training in Chainsaw Operation for the Forestry
Industry. These skills can be used in a range of industries where chainsaws are used.
These industries include conservation and land management, rural production,
horticulture, public services and utilities.
Learners who successfully complete the course can seek work in a Forest NSW area as
a Level 2 Chainsaw Operator. In NSW, all persons working in timber harvesting, forest LEVEL 2
production harvesting or forest materials extraction and associated activities on State  30 Mar - 1 Apr (Armidale)
Forests or other Crown-timber lands must hold a current Timber Licence, Products  17 - 19 May (Inverell)
Licence, Forests Materials Licence, Contractors Licence or Forest Operators Licence

issued by Forests NSW.
 21 - 23 Jun (Inverell)
The Forest Operators Licence specifies the types and categories of work the person
is permitted to undertake under licence conditions. Learners wishing to gain a Forest
Operators License should complete Course 17234 Professional Chainsaw Operations
(Forest Industries— Level 3).
Participants do not need to bring their own chainsaw. Personal Protection Equipment
(PPE: helmets, ear muffs, vests and safety vests & chaps etc.) will be supplied.
