The coronavirus pandemic has changed the transport system to a major extent . In majority
of the countries , public transport is a no go for the people . Majority of the people are
turning to motorbikes , cars and other personal transports . Due to the covid-19 situation
there has been an unexpected shortfall in the financial conditions of the transport
companies . Multinational companies like uber and ola which were on rise before the
pandemic were drastically effected at the start of the lockdown in 2020 . Due to the
lockdown which was imposed in almost all countries , the demand for transport has
decreased a lot . The coronavirus pandemic has affected all the sectors financially . Some
industries have favored from the pandemic while most of the industries have faced a
negative impact . Transport is one of the many areas of public life which has seen
extraordinary changes during the coronavirus shutdown . The Indian trucking industry
deploys more than 8 million drivers and 12 million helpers . As a baseline , 30 million people
are directly employed by the trucking industry and more than 150 million people are
dependent on it for their bread and butter .
Undoubtedly , the large scale meltdown has led the sector to skid off its promising track
thereby pushing thousands of fleet owners to risk . Experts caution that the real impact of
the nationwide lockdown would be long term . In transportation it is known that passenger
and freight transportation is primarily a derived demand . The demand movement is directly
related to participation in other economic activities . The Aviation industry has faced huge
losses due to the ban of the flights . Just like the Aviation industry , railways and metros
have also faced its adverse effects on the economic condition .

The coronavirus impact on Shipping industry is also enormous . Covid-19 outbreak has put
the shipping industry into the grip of fear and stagnation . China , the major player in the
global container shipping market , has been hit the hardest along with other major shipping
hubs such as Hong Kong , Singapore , Hamburg etc . The transportation sector in India has
faced huge amounts of losses in revenue . This has given rise to unemployment in the
transportation sector .

The transport system will face the effects of this pandemic even after it normalizes
.Coronavirus can remain viable on metal , glass , wood , fabrics and plastic surfaces . Most
people prefer using personal transport instead of public transport . Sectors on the industry
are now starting to prepare for post covid world of travel . Travelling on trains and buses
means potential exposure to the virus , so cities are racing to make their public transit
system safe . Railways and airports have been redesigned for social distancing to ensure
safety of the passengers . Railway stations and airports started setting up hand sanitizer
dispensers for the customers .
