De Jestis Ramirez, Biomedical Scionces student ‘SUBJECT: Report on trip to University Theater: UT Southwestem Campus Visit (On September 16, 2021, | visited the university theater to attend a conference offered by Dr. ||) Nancy Street about Summer Research and PhD, MD/PhD opportunities in biomedical { research at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Itwas brought to campus by the UPR-PRISE Program and | am interested in the sumer research opportunities. This report / hightghts the results of my trip and details ofthe conference. Lig offer INTRODUCTION OF THE CENTER Dr. Street presented us with the information about the Medical Center. They have two major ‘summer intemship programs focused on research that help undergraduate students in the process of translating basic science to clinical practice. It fers @ stipend of $5k and weekly seminars and optional classes. MDIPHD PROGRAM. Dr. Street specified that, although they have an MD program, she would focus on the MDIPKD program during this conference. They offer a $35k stipend that should cover(8 / years of tuition, fees, and health insurance. UT Southwestem also has @ Mental Healt Center that cares about the program students. All of those expenses are covered and pai. APRISE member asked about the MCAT score average, which is 515.
