Goal of Retreat: To instill and emphasize the group’s core values within all members, solidifying their plans to move
forward in accordance with their purpose as an organization.

# Participants: Small Group…6-15 members.

Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Location: Atrium II, URI Memorial Union
Facilitators: Greyson Ebneter, Morgan Smithberger, Angie Tyson, Sean Tally
Special Requests/Needs: Come as mentally prepared as possible—feed your body and drink lots of water for brain
fuel. This retreat is application heavy and will require critical thinking.

Atrium II, Create groups of 3 or 4 to
MU organize a community service
event with the maximum price
being $1. Ask about their
choice and ways they can add
more to it with $5 interments,
stopping at $15. Compare
satisfaction of giving back to
satisfaction of a selfish
purchase. Groups will be able
to apply their organization’s
value of making a difference.
Debrief with connecting
activity to core value.

way that most represents them,
sharing their story and ways
stereotypes have discriminated
them. Debrief with the
connection to helping other
organizations break down
stereotypes and be more

10:45-11:15 Desert Island Sean 15 Slips

Group members will rank each


item from most important to
least important to survival on a
deserted island. This activity is
focused on implementing core
values into decision making—
group members will see how
one another’s values carry out
into how they sequence their
items. It will establish how
influential group values are on
performance as an
organization.

11:20-11:45 Debrief of Day All No Supplies

Give group members the


opportunity to connect each
activity to specific core values.

Notes: Be sure to tie each activity back to the specific group core value it is designated to provide practice with during
each debrief. Additionally, each activity should begin with a reminder to keep said value in mind before starting. Debriefs
should also explain how the value at hand impacted the actions of the group as they were to keep their values in mind
when decision making and working together. Throughout this retreat, be sure to act as an inclusive leader—being
conscientious of each group member’s lived experiences and perspectives when delivering directions, debriefing, etc.
Avoid using microaggressions and making assumptions that would single anyone out, regardless of intentions.
