Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to you today to highly recommend Julia Lafferty for a new graduate nurse position at your
organization in your Emergency Department.

I have had the sincere pleasure as Julia’s clinical/theory professor in watching her grow into her role
during her final semester at the University of Arizona. During her fourth semester, Julia completed a
180-hour preceptorship at Santa Cruz Valley Regional Hospital, a small rural hospital outside of Tucson,
Arizona. While not a large facility, it is a facility that operates with minimal resources, requiring the
nurses who work there to display the ability to adapt, overcome, and persevere while providing
evidence-based, holistic care to their patient population. This experience afforded Julia the opportunity
to serve a variety of patients and gain experience on a Med/Surg unit, the ICU, and the Emergency
Department. Julia grew significantly in her five-week preceptorship, challenging herself daily to
learn/practice a new skill, connect with her patients, and utilize Integrative Nursing principles to ensure
holistic care was provided.

Were you to ask Julia, she would describe herself as a life-long learner. Julia is one who knows what she
doesn’t know and seeks out any and all opportunities to learn and grow in her role. She knows when to
ask for help and catches on quickly once presented with a new task. Julia also knows the value of
interdisciplinary teamwork and aims to know and work well with each member of the team. You could
say that Julia is someone who has “never met a stranger.” She has a great rapport with both staff, her
patients, and other members of the care team.

I started my career as a new graduate in the Emergency Department. I understand that it can be a hard
department to start in and it’s not made for everyone. I feel very confident in saying that Julia would be
a great addition to any Emergency Department. Should you make the decision to allow her to work and
grow within your organization, she will make every effort to ensure that she gives her all.

Thank you for taking the time to consider Julia for this position. Should you have any questions, please
do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Sarah Hoogasian
