1. Synopsis of the novel “Dilan 1990”

One day when he left school, there was Dilan who followed Milea on his motorbike. And he told
milea that he wanted to take the angkot with him, when in the angkot Dilan said “Milea, you are
beautiful, but I don’t love you yet. I don’t know if it’s afternoon, just wait” Dilan’s words made Milea
shocked, Milea was just silent, she was also thinking about her boyfriend who was in Jakarta.

Dilan always approaches Milea in a way that other men don’t usually do, maybe that’s his way of
making Milea unable to stop thinking about Dilan. Milea is on the verge of doubting “should I be
honest with Dilan that I already have a boyfriend?” Milea is afraid that if she is honest, Dilan will
make her sad because she can’t have a pleasant chat anymore. And he also doesn’t want to tell beni
that someone is trying to get close to him. One day on Milea’s birthday, Nandan gave her a big
panda doll, Nandan gave it to class. Nandan said the reason he gave the doll is so that when he
sleeps, Milea can get hug him. Beni also came to Bandung to celebrate Milea’s birthday. Milea is
disappointed that Dilan did not wish her a happy birthday, even though she is sure that Dilan will call
at 00.00, to be the first to wish her a happy birthday.

Dilan comes to class to visit Milea. The package that Dilan brought was given to Milea, then shook
Milea’s hand “happy birthday Milea”. That day Milea’s heart was blooming, according to her what
Dilan did was really special. The contents of the package are crossword puzzle books, in the
crossword puzzle book there is a handwritten piece of paper.

The following days Dilan began to change, Milea felt Dilan away from her. Dilan stays away from
Milea because he thinks that Milea is dating Nandan, and Milea tells Piyan, Dilan’s friend, so that
Piyan can explain that Milea has no special relationship with Nandan. Since then, Milea has started
to keep her distance from Nandan so that Dilan doesn’t misunderstand again.
Dilan is the son of a motorcycle gang, even though he is a bad boy, he is smart and always gets the
first rank in his class. As time goes by Milea and Dilan start to get to know each other, Milea learns a
few things about Dilan from Wati, Dilan’s cousin who goes to the same school as her.

Milea came to Jakarta to be a supporter of a school friend who represents smarts at TVRI, Milea
called Beni and said that if he went to Jakarta, Beni promised to come to the television station where
the event was taking place.

Milea has been waiting for Beni for a long time, who promised to come, but Beni never came.
Finally, Milea went to eat with nandan and wati. That’s when Beni comes and gets angry seeing
Milea eating with other men. From that moment Milea ended her relationship with Beni.

When Milea is sick, Dilan takes Bi Asih, a massage therapist to her neighbor’s house. Dilan always
makes Milea feel so special. Beni comes to Milea’s house accompanied by her uncle, hoping that her
relationship with Milea will return, but Milea’s decision cannot be changed, Milea still wants to
break up with Beni.

Milea’s relationship with Dilan is now getting serious, even Milea is often invited to Dilan’s house,
and introduced to her family, especially her mother.

Vice versa, Dilan also often visits Milea’s house. Dilan always takes care of Milea, when someone
hurts Milea, Dilan will beat that person, even if it’s his own friend. Like Dilan who beat up Anhar for
slapping Milea. At Bi Eem’s shop, Milea treats Dilan’s wound that was hit by Anhar, Milea kisses
