DISCUSSION

Sort or “Seiri” which means “tidiness” is the

first step in the process of 5s. Eliminating clutter
and clearing up space by removing things that do
not belong in the area is the goal of sorting.
Thus, in sorting we distinguish necessary and
unnecessary things in the workplace and
eliminate unnecessary things. Keep all necessary
things and everything else is stored or thrown.
Benefits of the Principle of 5S
1. Seiri or Sorting
You can quickly and easily find forgotten or lost

things
• You can quickly find things when it is placed
according to its use and is not covered by stack
of clutter
• You can quickly and safely move things when
clutter was removed
• You can quickly and effectively repair and
adjust things if appropriate tools are used
• You can work productively if the work area is tidy and well-organized
• You are more likely not at risk of injuries
“Seiton” means Straightening or Set in Order

• You can increase productivity because it is clear when things are indeed

3. Seiso or Shining or Systeatic Cleaning

“Shitsuke,” which means Sustain is the fifth
step in the Principle of 5 S, literally
means “discipline.” It developed processes by
the self - dis cipline of the workers. The main goal
is to ensure that the 5S approach is followed.
Sustaining the discipline is done to keep the
manner for the long way. Supporting is required
for further continuity. 5S could be a prop ensity
and is ceaselessly made stri des.

• The workplace will become free of dirt and

stain, which is the critical point of quality.
• Equipment lifespan will be prolonged, and breakdowns will be less.
• Creates a pleasant environment.
• Prevent accidents.

4.“Seiso,”
Seiketsu or Standardize
which means Shining or systematic
cleaning in English, is the third step in the
Principle of 5S, which means “cleanliness.” It
is done to clean the unwanted things from the
workplace. A key point is maintaining
cleanliness s hould be part of the daily work - not
a feature that distinguishes 5s.
• You will maintain a strategic distance from mistakes
• With superior visual and straightforwardness administration, work productivity
will make strides.
• You will have consistency in the workplace.

5. Shitsukewhich
“Seiketsu,” or Sustain

her obligations are for following the primary 3
S’s. The Principle of 5S, which stands for Seiri or Sorting, Seiton or Set in Order, Seiso or
Shine, Seiketsu or Standardize, and Shitsuke or Sustain, is instrumental in evaluating
everything that is inside an area so that working can be done efficiently, effectively, and
safely. This involves removing the clutter, organizing important things, cleaning the area,
incorporating the Principle into standard procedures, and finally makes it a habit and a
responsibility to continue the cycle. These steps supply each other, which means following
its sequence is very important.
5S concentrates on enhancing the working area. Different working areas may have
differences, making it hard to forecast the possible outcome or result of using this
Principle. But, when practiced and used correctly, there are real benefits that we can enjoy
as it will help make our workplace organize, order, clean, standardize, and when sustain, it
will promote efficiency.
