Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening

The poem ‘’stopping by the woods on a snowy evening’’, by Robert Frost is a short and

interesting piece of art dealing with the normal typical human desire to escape from troubles.

Through this poem, Frosts specifically describes and suggests that the woods are his means to

escape from troubles and Frost conveys this act by his wonderful diction when he was

describing about the forest and its surrounding. The speaker of the poem is travelling through

at night and stops with horse. The speaker stays stand still at the wood admiring the deep dark

forest surrounding him. But never the less he decides to move on, which has been stated by the

line in the poem ‘but I have promised to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. The poem has

put into place literal forms like mood, symbolism, irony and imagery which are critical to the

poetry. Frost also describes and tells us about the characters and how the characters

communicate.

When I read the poem, it makes me feel alert and continue to wonder. The mood of the poem is

scary. The tone and detailed imagery create a dark and misty experience of some sort. I can

imagine being in the woods with the narrator, riding on the horse through the woods, I can feel

the woods filling up with snow and observe the horse while he shakes his harness bell to ask

the speaker if there is a mistake. The ending of the poem compels me to think on how to lie y

life, is it by running away from problems or finding ways to face it. So I would describe the

mood of the poem as uplifting, thoughtful, and meditate.

The tone of the story could as well be described as inspired and amazed. Despite the woods

being lovely, dark and deep, and the woods were filling up with snow, the speaker still stopped

at the woods to rest. The woods were peaceful and quiet. He experienced only the sound of his

horse, the flowing wind which made hi relax. The set of words that the speaker has also brings

to mind his sense of curiosity and compassion. The poem has a theme of journey sine the

speaker is travelling across the woods. The speaker sticks to his goal to escape and is

determined to go across the woods with the line ‘but I have promised to keep, and miles to go

before I sleep’.

The poem shows how courageous the speaker is at this moment. The character is brae enough

to go through a dark woods alone while it is the darkest night which he has ever seen in his life.

The speaker also cares about his horse who he is travelling with and takes good are oh him.

Although they do not talk the same language, they communicate through gestures, the speaker

placed a harness bell so that his horse could shake it to ask if there is a mistake or any danger.

The speaker gets away from the village to get away.

In the poem, the woods are considered to be a symbol. They are quiet and peaceful and provide

shelter to the speaker. They show how peaceful the woods are ands the speaker does not want

to leave but he must go sine he must fulfil his promises. The dark deep woods ay also be

considered to symbolise death which on the case the speaker stops for a while. While on the

other hand the speakers journey ay symbolise life.

To conclude, the poem is a reflection of human life, the speakers journey is the life we lie, the

dark woods are the problems people face, the horse symbolises the helping hands that lift us up

and the sudden pause of the speaker are the aspects that pull us back.
