Assignment Modul 1

1. Mention the main elements in the definition of translation!

 The transfer of thoughts and ideas from one language (SL=Source Language) to another
language (TL=Target Language).
2. What is the difference between simultaneous interpretation and consecutive translation?
 Consecutive interpreters listen to what the speaker is saying, and convey the message
into another language after the speaker has paused. ... Simultaneous interpreting works
for large, live events because interpreting happens in real time. The crowd isn't kept
waiting.
3. Give definition to sight translation/interpretation and whispered interpretation!
 Sight translation involves reading a written text in one language silently, and
simultaneously speaking the content aloud in another language
4. What are the requirements (prerequisites) that should be fulfilled by a good
translator/interpreter?
 A good translator should be familiar with the culture, customs, and social settings of the
source and target language speakers. She should also be familiar with different registers,
styles of speaking, and social stratification of both languages.
