1 PREPOSITIONS IN TIME PHRASES
• We use in for months and years: in August, in 2071
• We use on for days: on Monday, on 21st August, on New Year’s Day

2 PREPOSITIONS TO DESCRIBE TRENDS AND CHANGES


• We use a noun + in to say what has changed (a change in, a rise in, a decrease in)

• To say how much something has risen or fallen, we use a:

- noun + of: There has been an increase of three percent.


- verb + by: The number fell by three thousand.
- verb or noun + from ... to: The average rose from 0.7 to 13.

• To say the level something reached, we use a verb + to: The number rose to
21,000.
