Annexure – II
Guidelines for Preparation of the Project:
1. What is a Project ?
A project is a systematic study of a real issue to resolve the problem
with application of management concepts & skills. It involves
collection, analysis & interpretation of data scientifically leading to valid
conclusion.
2. Why Project Work ?
The purposes of the project work for students are –
• Provide an opportunity to apply the theoretical concept to actual
situations.
• To explore the skills for gaining practical knowledge about real life
situations.
• To generate approach and confidence in problem solving.
• To equip with tools & techniques of gathering, selecting, sorting &
analyzing the information for relevant use in practice.
3. Selection of Topic.
The choice should emerge from your area of interest & considering
your ability to generate relevant data. The nature & scope of problem
definition has to be clear indicating also the need for the ‘Research
Project’.
4. Project Synopsis.
Once you have selected a topic, defined the problem with scope &
outlined the manner of study, submit the synopsis as per Attachment -
I format for approval of the Project Guide.
5. Desk Work.
Before starting the project carry out a preliminary survey of the
available literature on the topic. This study will help you in
3
understanding the problem in depth & different aspects which are
being investigated. Some studies require the statement of hypothesis.
The project then would be based on testing the hypothesis to verify or
reject it.
6. Methodology.
The quality of project work shall depend upon the methodology you
adopt for study with consideration to the nature of the project. The
main strength of your report comes from identifying, collecting, sorting,
synthesizing & analyzing information. Having identified which information
is relevant & needs to be collected you have to define how this will be
done. However, where the volume of data is very large, suitable sampling
methods need to be adopted. Sample size & coverage are to be clearly
mentioned. For collection of data, proper questionnaire matching
requirements is to be designed. Tabulation, classification, analysis,
interpretation & comparison are essential steps for processing data.
