The current work lavestigaes the heat tansfer enhancement of feat sink using perforated pin ins with
linear and staggered arrangement. Pin fins of various shapes with dillerent perforation geometies
namely circular, diamond shaped and elliptical type are considered inthis analsis. Three dimensional
‘GD simulations have been performed to study the effects of number and shape of the fi. geometry
and dimension ofthe perforation for both the arrangements, Results show that heat eissipatin rate of
Detforated fins upto certain perforation number and size are always higher than the solid ones and with
Lal the variation ini shape and perforation geometry heat transfer rate improves signicantly. Moreover
Fee ane ‘beter sistem performance is observed for staggered arrangement than ine arrangement. Conversely
‘Moose pressure drop trough heat snk decreases by inreasng number and size of perforations though varies
ergy ray "wth fn shape and fin attangement. Optimization analysis using MOORA as well s entropy generation
Frese top minimization method have been done to predict the best perforated fin which dissipates merit heat
transfer against minimum pressure os. Finally, exergy analysis has been performed to calculate second
law efficiencies of heat sinks using various types of perforated fins for both the arrangements.

1. Introduction
In this era of rapid development latest technologies need high
performance heat transfer equipment. Extended surfaces (fins)
are vastly used in heat exchanging devices for heat transfer aug-
‘mentation and thus various efforts have been made to fabricate
‘optimized fins for heat transfer improvement. Fins are generally
‘optimized by either increasing heat removal rate ata specific fin
‘weight or redicing the fin weight ata specific heat removal capac-
ity. Extended surfaces or fins are optimized using geometrical or
surface modifications to the flow channel by introducing inserts
‘or additional devices, These methods are generally used in various
industrial applications to enhance heat transfer between primary

surface (heat sink) and ambient fluid, Making perforations in fins
is one of the most useful methods to improve heat transfer and
‘he effect of the perforations on these aspects is motivated by com-
paring the perforated fin to its solid counterpart. The perforation of
fins increases heat dissipation rate and at the same time decreases
‘the amount of fin materials, In addition introducing perforations in
‘he fin body. the surface area and heat dissipation rates are
increased for a given range of perforation dimension, For particular
values of perforation dimension, the perforated fins can enhance
heat transfer rate due to more contact surfaces with the fluid as
compare to solid fins. Moreover, perforated fins have lower pres-
sure drag and higher friction than solid fins,
Various research works have been performed for improving the
heat transfer rate by using perforated fin. In most of the cases pin
fins in both linear and staggered arrangement were used as an
effective element for heat transfer enhancement. AlEssa|1| worked
