Discussion
In the result table shown above, it is the evident that the potato
strips in dilute water significantly increase in size, all the potato strips
in concentrated salt solution had decreased. Furthermore, potato
strips in salt solution cannot be bent which leads to shrinking and
swelling, while those in dilute water can be banned very easily.
Strips in distilled water
Description – Turgid
According to the theory from the previous research, it is state that
the plant cells will be turgid when it is in the dilute water. This can be
applied to the finding in this experiment as the potato strips in dilute
water has significantly increased in size which can be known due to
the movement of water molecules into the plant cells via osmosis,
enabling chemical processes to have been very efficiently.

Strips in concentrated salt solution


Description – Flaccid
The decrease in the mass of the potato strip is due to the movement
of water molecules outside of the plant cells. Water molecules in the
cytoplasm are at a higher concentration than in the salt solution so
they move along their concentration gradient out of the cells.
