TO ALL THE BUREAU MEMBERS

Corsier-sur-Vevey, 10th of June 2021/Jdr

Subject: People’s Republic of Korea – Tokyo 2020

Dear Colleagues,

Following the decision of the IOC Executive Board to reallocate the quotas of North Korea NOC due to their
cancellation of participation, UWW following that decision, must reallocate the spots that they earned in Nur-
Sultan during the 2019 Senior World Championships in Women’s Wrestling.

By this letter we would like to inform you that we must follow our Qualification System which provides:

“If an allocated quota place is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota place deadline or is
declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated in the same weight category to the NOC of the next
best ranked athlete, not yet qualified, in the qualification event where the quota place was obtained and
respecting the maximum number of athletes per NOC” 1

I have therefore the pleasure to inform you that the athlete in WW 53kg ranked 7 in Nur-Sultan is Ms. VALVERDE
MELENDRES Luisa Elizabeth from Ecuador.

In WW 62kg, the athlete who ranked 7th in Nur-Sultan is from Ukraine, but this country qualified a quota in
that weight category during the European Qualifier in Budapest. Taking this into account, we should reallocate
this quota to the next best ranked athlete in Budapest, which is Ms. CHERDIVARA ESANU Mariana from Moldova.

Because we will announce these reallocations, I thank you in advance to let us know before tomorrow (Midday
– Swiss Time) if you have any concern or comment on this reallocation process.

I also would like to inform you that we only have one pending case for these Games. The sample collected in
Sofia on the FS 125kg wrestler from India returned positive. His place will be reallocated pending all legal
remedies are lifted. We will use the same procedure if that case is confirmed.

Finally, I also want to inform you that our sport will have the pleasure to count one refugee athlete from Iraq,
Mr. Aker Al-Obaidi. We will have therefore 17 athletes competing in Greco-Roman Wrestling 67kg in Tokyo.

I hope that this letter provides you all the updates regarding the Olympic Games.

We stay at your disposal if something is not clear or if you have any question.

Sincerely Yours,

Nenad Lalovic
