What is an opinion? How to share ideas using

An opinion refers to a personal
belief. It relates to how someone
feels about something. Others
may agree or disagree with an
opinion, but they cannot prove or
disprove it. This is what defines it
as opinion.
Opinions cannot be proven;
however, they can be supported
by facts and other knowledgeable
opinions. Facts can be proven
with evidence, statistics, records,
photographs, data, etc.
Sometimes opinions are made to
sound like facts- specifically when
a writer/speaker wants to
convince his reader/listener.

These are the following ways that
must be observed when you want
to share ideas using opinion-
making signals:
Common phrases - Many
phrases are suitable in everyday
speech and some types of writing,
such as on blogs and personal
websites. Some of these phrases
are: I think…I believe… I
feel…In my opinion… and I
would say…
For example, imagine you have
your own vlog. Today you’re
talking about the world’s best
street food. You might say:
*In my opinion, Philippines has
the best street food.

Formal phrases - Next, look at a few phrases that are more common
in formal situations. For example, at different school activities like
debate, reporting or in a formal paper: From my point of view…From my
perspective…In my view… or It seems to me that…
Here’s an example: * In my view, homework should be given more
attention. They help us, as students, to learn more and help
ourselves to be more knowledgeable.
Asking for opinion - You’ve expressed yourself, but what about the
opinion of others? Often, when expressing an opinion or suggestion, it’s a
good idea to ask other people for theirs. Phrases like these help show our
desire to hear from others: What do you think of…? What are your
thoughts on…? How do you feel about…? And What’s your opinion on…?
Use these questions in many kinds of situations. For instance:

*What’s your opinion on Gilas Filipinas?

*How do you feel about the new president of the Philippines?

 Being Polite - People at work or school are sharing opinions about
politics or religious beliefs or something equally sensitive. For such times,
language should be more polite.

So, instead of saying “I totally disagree!” or “You’re wrong!” you might say
one of these: I’m not sure I agree with you on… I’m sorry but I don’t
agree. Or I’m afraid I disagree.

Example: I’m sorry but I don’t agree with your answers about the
difference between Pythagorean Theorem and Addition Theorem.

ALCOHOL AND FACE MASK: Are they

enough?
I strongly believe that using alcohol and wearing a mask is enough to
get rid of the COVID19. I think we should have to eat more healthy food
and do regular exercise. In my point of view, all the hoarding things that
people are currently doing with alcohol and masks are not a wise idea at
all. Yes, these are the things that we need have but I believe that we
should consider other people who will be able to have some just because
we are hoarding them all.

In this example, the writer expressed his/her opinion regarding the alcohol
and face mask. Look carefully how he/she used the following opinion-
making signals.

THE RELEVANCE OF THE TOPIC IN OUR STUDENTS’ LIVES:

In our life, we always like to express our own opinion but we should be
careful in doing so. By learning this lesson, we can know what are the
correct words to be used to our statements so that it will be easily identified
as an opinion and will not lead others into confusion. We must properly
construct our thoughts when it comes to expressing our ideas and should
arrange it properly so that people can easily understand your side. It could
help us not be engaged in some:
