Genetic Drift
Mutation
Gene Flow
Natural Selection
Nonrandom mating

Activity 4
Unlike Darwin, Lamarck believed that living things evolved in an upward direction, from dead
matter to simple to more complex forms, eventually leading to human "perfection." Species did
not die out as a result of extinctions, according to Lamarck. Instead, they evolved into different
species.
What I Have Learned

Activity 5

1. Evolution refers to a change over time.

2. Charles Darwin is the father of evolution.
3. Carolus Linnaeus is considered as father of taxonomy.
4. Thomas Malthus believed that populations grow geometrically while resources slowly increase
leading to competition.
5. Jean Baptiste de Lamarck proposed the theory of use and disuse.
6. Natural Selection explains the difference in survival of individual and reproduces in a particular
environment.
7. Gene flow is the movement of genes from one population to another.
8. Mutation occurs when there is a change in the genetic makeup caused by environmental stressors.
9. The bottleneck effect happens when a small population of organisms separates from the larger
group to invade a new area.
10. Founder effect takes place when population decreases due to various environmental factors such
as fires, earthquakes and floods.
