Slide 2 Karanggebang is located in Munungkerep village,


Kabuh sub district, Jombang, East Java.
In this place, Pandan grows mostly in the banks of
river, on the edge of farm and roadside.

Over the years, local weavers produce traditional
designs for mats. Then, the local youths joined in
PERSAKA (Persatuan Penganyam
Karanggebang),initiated to create more valuable
products to boost pandan handicraft income.

skills in making pandan handicrafts and to create
more qualified products.

Slide 6 1. Harvesting
The craftworkers cut suitable young Pandan
leaves.

Slide 7 2. de-thorning.
3. Stripping to size.

For faster process, dethorning and stripping are


done at the same time.

5. Pressing

Pandan leaves are placed in the sun to dry. After air


drying, the leaves are pressed to make them softer
and easily to weave.

The craftworkers weave the leaves up and
down.

Pandan weaving are cut to shape depending on
desirable products.

The process of making pandan handicrafts takes 8


until 10 days.
