DISCHARGE PLANNING

MEDICATION

 Refer the medications from the prescribed drug and dosage by the Physician.
 Take your medicine as directed.
 Maintain medication especially Vitamin Calcium and vitamin D are necessary
for the bone health of children with cerebral palsy. Vitamin D helps the body
absorb calcium, and calcium is essential for strengthening the bones.
TREATMENT

 The patient must be able to understand and comprehend the following

diagnostic procedures and treatments regarding the Cerebral Palsy.
 Most states mandate that medical professionals who originally order or
prescribe treatment maintain medical records only a certain number of
years. Not all medical professionals or medical facilities provide patients
with the option of obtaining records before they can be legally destroyed..
 Physical therapy. Muscle training and exercises can help your child's
strength, flexibility, balance, motor development and mobility. You'll also
learn how to safely care for your child's everyday needs at home, such as
bathing and feeding your child.
 Occupational therapy. Occupational therapists work to help your child
gain independence in daily activities and routines at home and school
and in the community.
 Speech and language therapy. Speech-language pathologists can help
improve your child's ability to speak clearly or to communicate using
sign language. They can also teach the use of communication devices,
such as a computer and voice synthesizer, if communication is difficult.
Speech therapists can also address difficulties with eating and
swallowing.
 Recreational therapy. Some children benefit from regular or adaptive
recreational or competitive sports, such as therapeutic horseback riding
or skiing. This type of therapy can help improve your child's motor skills,
speech and emotional well-being. Both adults and children benefit from
regular physical activity and exercise for general health and fitness.

OUTPATIENT CHECKUPS

 The patient should attend follow-up checkups in order for the

physician to check the progress of recovery.

DIET

A healthy, well-balanced diet can aid weight gain and growth, as well as
immunological function, circulation, and cognition. It can also assist with irritation
and speeding up recovery from surgery and illness. The first treatment for cerebral
palsy is to help you achieve the changes you should make in your diet, you will meet
with a dietitian, nurse, or a speech language therapist (Speech-language therapy is the
treatment for most kids with speech and/or language disorders). And an occupational
therapist (Occupational therapists help with barriers that affect a person's emotional,
social, and physical needs. To do this, they use everyday activities, exercises, and
other therapies.) The general guidelines below will help you until you receive your
individualized food plan:
 calcium, a mineral stored in bones and teeth. Best sources of this include milk,
yogurt, cheese, and calcium-fortified juices

 vitamin D, which helps the body absorb calcium from food and supplements.
It's found in some fish, such as salmon and tuna, fish liver oil, and in the US,
fortified products like milk, orange juice, and cereal. Our bodies also make
vitamin D when skin that is not protected by clothes or sunscreen is exposed to
the sun.

 phosphorus, a mineral that plays a role in the growth of bones and teeth. It's
found in milk and milk products, meat, fish, eggs, poultry, nuts, seeds, and
whole grains.

 Eggs are high in protein and choline, making them an important part of the diet of people with
cerebral palsy.

 Avocados are high-fat and high-calorie fruits that are full of various nutrients.
 Many individuals with cerebral palsy may be undernourished because of
difficulties controlling the muscles around the mouth. As a result, they may
struggle to chew and swallow.

 High-calorie and nutrient-dense foods like avocados help ensure that
individuals with CP are eating enough calories without needing to increase the
volume of food they eat.
